Title: brushes in a kew 8000 winch
Post by: Pookapotamus on May 04, 2009, 07:36:07 AM
i just got this winch but it only works in one direction and some times cuts out, if i tap it with a hammer its starts again so i am expecting brushes. does anyone know where i can get a set? also i have completely rewired the solenoids but i am not sure if they are both working where can i gat a wiring diagram (seached the web but could not find a diagram that matched what i have) or where i can get some new solenoids?

i hooked it up on the bench when i first got home and it worked in both directions, then i started the truck and it would no longer work in one direction >:(, so i rewired to make sure all connections were good.

any help would be muchly appreciated :-\

A friend of mine was having similar problems with a warn 9000 and i think he ended up running a heavier ground cable back to the battery.

carbon brush supply out of Edmonton can make brushes for anything. They are on 105 ave and 111 st.They where like $10 a set and where ready in about fifteen minutes. Had to bring in the old ones to make a set..Ramsey wanted like $120 for a set.Grabbed a couple of extra sets while i was there.

thanks everyone!  i took it apart last night and good news the brushes are like new! but the bad news is one of the perimiter magnets has fallen off and cracked in half :o  so i have re epoxied it back into place and will see how well it workes tonight.

does anyone run a batery disconect to their winch? i have been thinking on this and cannot decide if it is a good idea or not.

My KEW8000 would only run 1 way as well I took apart the hand controller and found the contacts on the buttons weren't touching for the 1 direction

you could probly go to princess auto and pick up a couple things and make your own it is a very simple wire job.

I know this is old and excuse my ignorance but who makes kew8000. I just saw one and it looked like an older Ramsey knock-off...??
