Title: Boxing Day open Run
Post by: FiEND on December 15, 2009, 03:25:39 PM
first off, need someone to lead this run.  I am tempted but after camping this past weekend, and still breaking in my front gears, i am not yet ready to go out again.

So, hopefully someone will step up.  Lots of new trails opened up at waiparous = lots of snow fun.

conditions out there are pretty good.  icy in some spots and hills are always a challenge.
this means minimum requirements may be steeper than normal.

Looks like part of Mockingbird, Margaret Lake, Cabin Creek, Fallen Timber, southern part of Ghost Cross Country and a new connector trail off Meadow Creek.  Been a few years since I have run those trails, good to get them back if only during the winter season.  Will definitely add some interest and difficulty to our winter wheelin'.  Kudos to those that helped make this happen!

I may/may not be interested in this... Depends on if I can drag someone out with me on boxing day, and if you guys think a (mostly) stock '08 Rubi Unlimited could make it on those trails? I have confidence in my 4x4ing ability but I haven't seen many, if any, of the Waiparous trails myself.

I'm trying to get out on one now because I also need to break in my new camera...

I will be out helping Dom. For the 3 months those two trails are open I'll be out there clearing wind fall off the trail so the quads can sail through for the next 9 months. Next winter I'll probably be clearing 3 different trails for 3 months so the quads can sail through some more all year. Do you see a pattern developing? ;)

Oh ya.......Boxing Day...I'm sure we'll bump into you folks, be it at breakfast or on the trails, if it's not too cold.

I have my doubts about them being open by then.  Maybe with some luck.

ok   so i can confirm now ... i'm going out on this run  ... and i can lead it.     since we haven't had many open runs    i'd like to keep this as open as possible...

what trails we do will depend on conditions and who comes out.  If there's enough interest we can split up the group .

Min requirements :
waivers will have to be signed by  non members  (passengers too )
valid drivers licence and insurance
tires -->   31"  or bigger    ( must be in good shape)
proper tow points front and rear
extra food and water
warm clothes and a change of clothes
recovery gear  ( recovery strap)
full tank of gas

highly recommended stuff :
tire chains
winch
CB
lockers

No booze on the trail or in vehicles...    ( this means passengers too)

I want to keep this simple and fun ...

Okay...double-checked all the spare warm clothing, packed an extra box of granola bars, and programmed my HAM radio for Wildcat Hills and Mockingbird lookout.

I'll be at the Smitty's parking lot for 8:30(ish)
