There is an open run scheduled for Feb 6. Jeff (Rubio3jef) will be leading this run.
It will be another fun day in Waiparous and everyone is welcome to come. So mark it in your calendars!
More details will be posted as we get closer to the date.
-
Im in !!!! Cant wait ;D
-
I'm in too.
Do you guys meet up somewhere for breakfast?
-
More details will be posted once we have a trail leader. In the past, we have met at Smitty's but it is still closed for renos...
-
Damn... no run for me... just got my new gears installed... and i cant imagine how i would cover the break-in kms between now and Feb 6.
-
its basically a tank of gas ;) you can't burn that in a two weeks? ;)
you'll be fine.
-
;D Peer pressure! Peer Pressure! hahaha ;D
Fine... im in. The wife is gonna wonder why im going out for 50km drives every day. lol

"Necessary maintenance."
Ask her if she wants to go do it instead. ;D
-
Are you kidding??? She'd be all for it... stick me with the 4 month old that wont take a bottle... and i'd probably never see my jeep or her again. haha
-
hopefully I will be in.
the xj is at the body shop likely till late thursday or friday, and I need to do some repairs before I take it out(and some of these depend on when I get the parts I need).
I might just have to take jpthing up on his offer and tag along with him if I can't get mine fixed in time. :)
-
id like to go to
-
Well, just signed up , new member. New to area.... Where are you guys heading to? Can my stock 07 JK handle it ?
Anxious to meet up with the group and get involved !
Frank
-
Welcome Frank! The only winter wheeling we have is out in Waiparous. And yes, you stock JK can handle it. Ensure you have front and rear tow points. Other stuff like winch and CB are usually optional on open runs. The trail leader will be posting up additional info soon. Hope to meet you soon!
-
If I can find out where the short is in my Jeep I will be there. I dont want it to die on the trail and then not get it going again. I have a week to find the short.

Thanks Kevin, appreciate the feedback. So new, that I don't have the rear/front tow points but will look into getting this. If one isn't ready, would trailin' with other be an option?
-
I'm planning on going. I'll volunteer to run last in the group. I've got an empty seat if Frank can't get his rig ready in time.

Any idea what time you might be going yet? I get off work that morning. Not sure if Jeeping and 2 hours sleep will really go together! :-\

Usually we meet in the parking lot at Smitty's in Cochrane at 8:30AM..leaving at 9AM fully fueled..
I would recommend being fully alert when wheeling. It's when you get tired that people make mistake, get injured or get killed.
better be safe then sorry. my 2 cents
Thank you Jeff for leading the run!!
-
Usually we meet in the parking lot at Smitty's in Cochrane at 8:30AM..leaving at 9AM fully fueled..
I might also come out for the festivities... will be a last minute decision though.
In addition to being fully fueled... I would also recommend that everyone know where they are going and where the trail head is before leaving Smitty's parking lot. If someone doesn't know where the trail head is... now is the time to speak up & buddy up with someone who knows where they are going. That way if ya get separated from the herd (trust me... weird sh*t happens sometimes)... someones watchin out for ya. That and the rest of the group wont be wondering "Hey... where did that guy in the red TJ go?"... right Dom ;)
Oh ya... sounds obvious... but even for the drive out... keep your CB on and tuned to the CJA default channel at all times. Is it 9 or 10... I forget :-[
-
Channel 10 unless it has changed. 8)

I don't know what you are talking about Kevin! ;)... ;D ;D ;D
If you lose the group; continue going strait until you meet another member of the group.
If the group turn onto another trail/road ; someone should wait for you.
Better,... every member of the group should not lose sight of the person behind them.
Channel 10 is usually the one the CJA uses.
Never use channel 9... it's the emergency channel
-
Finally be able to try out the new CB on the 6th!
Im amazed at how little talk is on the radio in and around Calgary. Only place i hear even a smidge of conversation is over near the RoadKing.
-
since the last few trip have resulted in killing deers or scrapping jeeps
we all leave from smitties at the save time and we all will follow each other out back to smitties
no one gets left behind no excuses .. we all wait for each other
so we'll set the meeting time at 8:30 so pretty much show up fueled and ready to go .. get your coffee be for 8:30
and s for the route we take it will be desided on what size jeeps show up and how expierenced people are
channel 10 for those who have CB's'
-
I could possibly be in for this one depending if I get my rig back together... Are you gonna stage at the pit in Waiparious? if so could I meet you there? I live in Sundre, and its alot easier that running down to Cochrane and then half the way back up to Waiparious.
.
-
since the last few trip have resulted in killing deers or scrapping jeeps
Is this where we say "Who hit a dear and who lost a jeep" ? ???
-
Will it scratch my new baby???? I'm new to here too, just signed up. I drive a 2008 Jeep Rubicon. I'd love to come. I'm also new to 4x4ing, I've done about 8 hours 4x4ing, think I can handle it?
Thanks
Alice
-
Shouldn't scratch it up, the trails that are out there should be easy for even a stock Rubicon.
-
I might come down from Sundre for this but my jeep is a trailer queen is there a bit of a staging area to leave tow rigs. I might have another buddy coming in the same shoes.
-

yep. leave your tow rigs with the rest of em ;) unload and lets wheel ;)
-
for those that have tow rigs and the guy coming from sundre ya we can all meet at the grgavel pit .. and there its lots of room to leave your tow truck and trailer there
stock rubicon will do fine .. most trails are cleaned up and no trees going to touch but theres always that chance that you slid off a trail and bump a tree
nothing is for sure

What the heck is that supposed to mean Fraser??? "even a stock Rubicon" Them's fightin words... I ought to beat you with my Rubicon stick! ;)-
Alice, I've been driving my '06 Rubi stock for three years and despite the clearance issue, I go a lot of places with my 'stock Rubicon'. It is truly amazing what these vehicles can handle. Trust in your vehicle and trust in your spotter. They'll get you through just about anything.
And I'm sure everyone will agree (and from one who knows)... it's only the first scratch that hurts (well, maybe first two).
-
And I'm sure everyone will agree (and from one who knows)... it's only the first scratch that hurts (well, maybe first two).
sooooooooooo true
-
Im stocked havent been out since the 101
-
Im stocked havent been out since the 101
Holy crap man...you're alive? Where you been? ;D
-
Ugh jeep was broke all summer, and I was busy with friends up from the states for couple months, then I went on night shift, and the last couple months just kept forgeting lol. Long story short it's been a very interesting 6 months lol
-
Glad to hear you're still around...:)
-
Whats the thought on chains for this run?
Anyone see any need?
I've got a pair of V-lug chains... but i dont exactly have the clearance to run them currently. :o
Could probably pickup a set of the low profile cable type... i know they're not the best... but they'd probably be better than nothing.
Let me know if you guys think we might need them... and i'll go from there.
Mike
-
You will be able to get around without chains. This is an open run so there shouldn't be anything that really requires them.
-
were going to try to stick to easier trails
no big hills .. we only had trouble with one hill the last time we were out and that can be avoided
but feel free to bring your chains once again you never know what we'll run into
hey kevin are you rolling out for this run
-
I want to but I'm going to attend my sons karate tourny that day. If something changes, I'll be out.
-
hmm do i want to bring the stock xj or do i want to rip it apart and lift it that weekend???
-
Go wheelin there will be lots of opportunity to wrench.
-
Awesome!
I havn't been out for ages... I'll be there.
Kiwi.

This sounds Great! I haven't been out to W country for at least 10 years. First time wheeling in the new (to me) jeep. Do I need a spotter?
-
No... there will enough people to lend you a hand. Show up, have fun. Passengers are welcome and encouraged.
-
I would love to come out with you guys. Have been posting on here for a while and done a fair bit of wheeling but have not yet been on a cja event. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
-
trevor are you going on this run
-
this look slike it will be a pretty big group ..
should be fun
-
trevor are you going on this run

how many do we have thus far for next weekend?
possibly split the group into 2 possibly?
-
i dont know how many people
so lets do a head count
everyone coming post up ( COMING )
-
COMING
-
i ll be there !.......as well i may be bringing 1-2 others interested in CJA
-
COMING
will likely bring a bud who is getting a new jk, but he will likely tag with me so he does not get his scratched(lame).
-
COMING. Can't wait. ;D
-
Hi I just registered and had a question about the open run on Feb 6, I have a fairly stock 97 TJ but I do have tow points front and rear and picked up a recovery strap but still have stock rubber, I've noticed that the previous runs this winter list 31 inch tires as a requirement would I be able to make the run on stock I believe 28 inch?
Matt
-
I believe the CJA Execs intend to plan the run according to the rigs that show up.
I'm sure Rubi03jef will comment shortly regarding your question... but my initial guess would be that they'll say yes.
-
I think i will be there with my jk. ;)

Matt
what size are your tires? what constitutes 'fairly stock'? do you have other mods done to it?
usually we run with a minimum of 31" ATs at the minimum.
what size are you running? brand? what kind of condition are they in? if they are bald then i'd advise staying home; the hills can get slick; bald street tires don't hold up well in such conditions!!!!!
this is ultimately up to the trail leaders discression.
-
COMING. Need to know the meeting place though.

Hi Matt ,... as long as your stock tires have half decent thread left on them; you should be fine. That means no bald tires.... 50% or more is good.
Cheers,
Dom
-
I'm hoping to be there as well as a buddy of mine but both of us are dependant on work. 8:30 and Smittys in Cochrane right
-
coming ... and if needed i can lead a 2nd group too
( i wouldn't mind making it to the falls ... haven't been there yet this year)
-
you in too Sean?
how many do we have thus far for next weekend?
possibly split the group into 2 possibly?
well if i do come i will be ridding shotgun. with who i dont know
-
well guys count me in for another run, see ya at smitties parking lot at 8:30am
-
I don't know a lot of your guys but I could run as a tail gunner for a group if need be I'm running a YJ SOA on 38's with all the necessary requirements. That and I like running last.
-
COMING!!!
-
who has a seat they wouldn't mind filled
-
coming
-
ok so yes i would like to see 31 's and up
for tire size
but since i didnt clarafy that earlier and im sure a few people wil have 28 or 29 inch tires ill let it slide
but they have to be at least 70% good and NO ALL SEASONS
so that means AT's and MT;s
since this is getting to be a big group ill lead the smaller jeeps and if someone can step in and run a second group of the bigger jeeps that would be great
so theres the low down
and we meet 8:30 at Smittys in Cochrane
fueled and ready to go
-
Just to add on to Jeff's post. Your Jeep will be looked at to make sure you meet these guidelines. You also need to have a current drivers lic, insurance, registration and the OWNER of the Jeep needs to be present.
-
I'll be there....
I'm running on four mini doughnuts but I wrapped them in duct tape. that should be good eh? ;)
-

COMING!!!! Ok two tow points almost check
tow points front and rear are mandatory. if you have a rear hitch thats a good tow point, and some sort of front points are needed too. eiter OEM hooks/brackets or aftermarket bumper/hitch setup is needed.
trust me, it makes the day much more enjoyable.

i cant make it this saturday, i'm flying out to work tomorow, see ya all in march
-
haha Will be slightly less confusing now... 1 less red 99 XJ.
I was actually hoping to see your rig... since we're apparently building up the exact same vehicle. haha
Pretty sure Zombie is still coming... thats a red 97 XJ... and he seems to be quite a bit further in mods than me.
-
i may see you guys out there suposed to be headed out camping
-
I might see everyone out there too, I'm heading out with the atv's don't know what day yet tho...might hit the sportsmen show on Saturday instead THEN go atv'ing on Sunday. ???
Either way have fun, be safe! ;D
-
I'm out.. cant get the rig back together in time.. have fun boys!!!

I am sure going.
don't worry, most of the mods were done allready, now I just have to fix the rest of the stuff that was wrong(had to do most of the front end allready)
still want a new steering box.
I still have things that I want to do, but it should be ok for a day out, did alot of little things this week, just have to check fluids and get everything packed up and I should be good.
-
I cant make it out Saturday either. I am looking forward to the run in March. Have fun.
-
Thanks Jim and Kevin for looking out for me ! If I'm not there tomorrow, I'll certainly be looking for you at the upcoming meeting.
-
Do I have to have a spotter or can i come with a empty seat.
-
So....I'm trying to work everything out so I can show up.
If I can make it, does anyone have an extra seat?
I'm new to this whole sport, and I'd love to ride as a passenger with someone to see what it's like, and see if it is something that I'd really enjoy.
Seems like everyone is really nice here, so I figure if I just show up there's a good chance I can get a seat. But...I don't want to confirm anything yet, as I won't know until tonight if I can go or not.
Thanks!

Looks like buddy above ya has a seat!
Wish I could make this run.... :( Have fun!
-
Do I have to have a spotter or can i come with a empty seat
empty seats are fine ... if you get lonely you can always sit a blow up doll in there :o
if you need a spotter there's always someone willing to jump out of their jeep to help you out
-
Looks like my plans might have to change a bit.
May or may not see you guys out there.
Either way... have a wicked day wheel'n.
-
but we do need to have a large collection of red xj's
it will sure be fun to see how things go.
-
I am definitely coming down from SUndre with a buddy from Innisfail. Don't leave without us. Black and Silver CJ on a trailer pulled by a Dodge.
Thanks
-
I'm in a totally different group, but those with Ham radios in your group, we sit on simplex 146.4. Have a great day. We might bump into you.

I'll give a call or three while we're out there.
I'll probably also be monitoring the VE6GAB repeater (Mockingbird Lookout) It's on 147.0750, + 0.60, ENC 100
If my last run out there was any indication, you can hit it with 5 watts from most of Waiparous...and I could also hit it from the south edge of Red Deer when I was driving south on HWY 2 today...but that took 50 watts. :-[
-
seee you all there tomorrow .
be prepaired
