-
Hey that's my B-day!
I will probably see you guys out there I'm bringing a bunch of 'The Clan' out that weekend.
;D
-
So far looks like I'll be around for this one, so count me in
-
I am going to try to make this one.
-
I gotta "break" in my new jeep sooner or later, so I'm in. :)
Looking forward to it.
-
i have to test my new mud country's so i should be there and if i get it installed by then i will have cb and winch :)
-
should be able to make it, didn't get much done to the jeep this winter but it's still trail rated.
-
I will be there. hope to have CB installed. ;D
-
I'll be there if my jeep starts to cooperate ::)
-
anyone got an extra seat that i could tag along??
-
if i can get a spare 31 ill have the comanche out. if not will try not to blow up another clutch on the rubi lol...
-
Brent come by i got 5 31's to choose from or take em all for free
-
Hey all. There are a few of us down in Lethbridge that might make the journey up for this run. Only thing is we are lacking FRONT recovery points. Is this a MUST for this trail run? I have a rear recovery point, and im assuming the rest of the guys do as well.
thx

solid front and rear points are a mandatory.
please do not put the trail leader in the difficult position of telling someone who drove all the way from lethbridge they cannot run with us because they are lacking minimum requirements.
-
Understood, but with all due respect, and I really dont mean to sound like a dick here, but no one is going to tell me where I can and cant drive my Jeep. Again I mean that in the nicest way . ::) Hopefully I can figure something out b4 the run. Sorry if anyone feels offended....
-
nope no offence taken :)
you are absolutely entitled to do whatever you want. for club sponsored runs such as this though where you run with us, we do require certain things.
you are more than entitled to wheel your rig how you want.
-
I would really like to join you guys but being that I have a ZJ, with no factory front tow hooks Im kinda screwed. I am planning on buying a KOR rad support/tow point in the future but I really dont think it would make it here in time. If anyone wants to chime in here on some suggestions feel free....

heres what i did.
(http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s37/johnnyzj/IMGP0376.jpg) its a hidden hitch, built by lemonAid here on this board. sits behind the facia, and has a hitch for a winch, and the D rings for recovery.
KORs rad support looks good but is flimsy. the Dring points bend if you pull from any angle. this puppy bolts a foot into he framerail. and trust me, i pulled on it.
-
thats pretty slick. im assuming there is a ring on the other side as well... how much does he charge
-
and saddly I doubt I could have it by next week
-

ya. one of my favorite setups. ask Jay.
other option is to order up some towhooks online. or run up to modern or national. they have em in stock. i think 150$ or so.
the set i bought (before this setup) i got at an autowreckers for 40$ a piece. call around Lethbridge to the autowreckers, i'm sure you can find some.
solid tow points is essential IMO. it makes getting stuck or hung up a non issue; or if you need help getting pulled up an icy hill;
definitely a good investment.
-
I'm gonna try and make it out for this one. Not 100% sure if I can make it yet though.
-
I got the towhooks, just need the mounting brackets!! :o I know where they are too ;D But gonna be fun to get em :(

What kind of BS is that? Let me guess. You feel you can wheel anywhere? Like construction sites and closed trails because you have a 4x4? This attitude smacks of hillbilly wheeling to me. Tow points are peanuts in the world of offroad modification. Your rig is probably pretty stock if you can't even get tow points, and there's a good chance YOU will be the one needing a recovery. This is a real poor attitude guy.
Sorry if I offended you...
-
I might come down from Sundre again with my CJ on 38's are there two groups going again or is this strictly a stocker friendly run. Is there a trail in mind and what do you expect to run into.
Also I don't think anyone was telling you where you could wheel they were just saying not with them. Besides front tow points should have been your first upgrade. I know I'm not a member of the club but I have been on a trip or two with the CJA and there is a reason for there rules and guide lines.

No, I dont feel like I can wheel anywhere I want just because I have a 4x4. As a matter of fact, I fully respect the laws regarding offroad trail usage. What I was refering to was the comment that someone could send me back home just because I didnt meet THEIR minimum requirements for offroading on Crown land. Yes I am completely stock as I have only had the vehicle a little over a month, and yes I agree, tow point are a pretty basic upgrade in the world of wheeling. If you had read further instead of jumping all over me, you would have seen that I am currently looking for tow hooks or any idea's toward them. So mabey instead of critizing people and refering to them as "hillbilly's" before you've ever met them, you should offer up some suggestions ALONG with your personal opinions. Its ok, dont get offended over internet talk.

He didn't say he'd send you back home, he said you couldn't join the club for the club run. Might suck but thems the rules.
-
You wouldn't be sent home... your rig wouldn't be allowed to join in the CJA run, because you (or several people) were not able to meet the MINIMUM requirements. It has happened before, and it will continue to happen unfortunately.
If you still want to join the run, but have not met the requirements... arrange to ride shotgun with somebody that has the minimum requirements.
I know that you probably wouldn't drive 2 hours to ride shotgun, but it is a suggestion (to you, and the others that are reading this post).

I have happily offered a shotgun seat to folks that have shown up and not been able to meet minimum run requirements.
I'll absolutely back any trail run leader that chooses to "dis-invite" someone that fails to meet minimum requirements.
If someone show up knowing that they don't meet the minimums and assuming that they will be allowed to coast, there is no way that they should be allowed onto the run.

i have a Q for u guys a buddy of mine wants to come with his 2010 jk on 35s but he only has the factory 32'' ish tire for a spare .. now i told him it has to be the same size as all for that are on it (35s)..

Is there a question in there somewhere? haha

Spare must be same size as the 4 on your rig

FYI, this is a "must have" on pretty much every run the CJA does.
A 32" spare is not all that useful when you're sitting on 35's - especially with a JK. The ESP system on the JK would not respond well to a 32 on one side of the axle and a 35 on the other.

Not to forget you will most likely cook your differential gears on the ride home
-
Absolutey your diff will be turning at dfferent speeds 100% of the time
Amagine highway speed going home-NOT GOOD
-
Not to criticize but if you can afford a 2010 JK lifted on 35's why wouldn't you flip the 200-300 extra for a spare so you aren't left on the street let alone the trail.

The same thought crossed my mind, but I didn't want to go there.

i was just asking... i know they have to be the same size I'm not dum.... just proving my buddy wrong. thanks for clearing it up in diff ways lol
-
I think I might have to sit this one out.
I have loads of bills with buying new house things and I have to go to a birthday that day for some family.
hope everyone has a blast.
but maybe no broken parts this time ;)
-
I was out in Waiparous yesterday on the atv did not see many vehicles until Meadow creek area but there was tons of other atv's...lots of the trails are still frozen but very do-able.
Al tho I will be out next weekend its for my b-day party so I wont have my trucks(s) I'll be in my buddy's 2x4 Chevy... ???
I'll keep an eye out for you guys/gals tho!
Keep safe have fun! ;D
-
Thanks for the update Ostego. I was wondering what the trail condtions would be like with all the warm temps we have had.
-
weather report say +8 and wet flurries should be a great day! :)
-
If all goes to plan... i'll land in Calgary 24 hours before the run... just enough time to kiss the wife hello, get the little one to remember me... and have a sleep.
The joys of working offshore! hahaha
I really cant believe im getting away with a 4x4 trip 24 hours after getting home from being away for 28 days.
-
Depending on how much it snows from now until Saturday will determine if I can make it out. I have the day booked off but if there is snow they will need me to be Mr. Plow for the day. Fingers are crossed I will be able to come with you guys.
-

cheers
-

-
just wondering, what are you newer (to the forum at least) guys running for tires, lift, mods etc?
for me 30" All Seasons atm, just got the jeep 2 weeks ago :) over about 10% tread wear. Full sized spare except it doesn't match and its around the 50% wear mark.
No lift no mods yet. but I'm open to suggestions

Start wheeling it and build as the budget will allow.
The usual pattern is lift and tiers, brake stuff -upgrade it ;), lockers, brake stuff :o - up grade it. and along the way you will do a cage up grade, tube fenders, On board air. remembor This is an addiction. ;D
-
YOU SAID IT !!!!!!!!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^
-
Im still in as long as my plane leaves Newfoundland as scheduled.
The weather has been brutal out here.... so we'll see what happens on Friday morning.
-
I've got a XJ with 31" all terrain t/a's, 3 1/2" lift, and that's about it for the time being.
-
i was out there this sunday and it was as muddy as last spring
I saw lots of Jeeps out there later in the day. What were you driving? I probably saw you.
I was in a jean jacket, black helmet on the yellow/grey Bombardier quad. :P
-
Hi everyone. My Jeep meets the minimums (except CB - working on that, and no winch).
However I haven't been off-road in years (and that was in the army). I'm wondering if I might get some value out of riding shotgun with someone who is willing to explain why's and why not's on the trail before I take the wheel myself.
What would you all recommend? and would anyone be willing to take me as shotgun?
Darren.
-
This open run will be stocker
You'll be fine driving on a stocker run. Nothing that you didn't put an M38A1 or Iltis through (I'm assuming an Iltis). But there's nothing wrong with riding shotgun to get experience.
-
There is nothing like hands on experience, take your rig . The trail guides are excelent tuck in behind the leader and do as they do.
-
Ill be there , Ill can take a second group or run rear if needed
-
any chance i can ride with some one so i can see what this is about and what someone with experience can do ? little nervouse to take my ride out still
-

You would be good to bring your stocker on this run but if you really feel you would like to run shotgun I will have a seat for you. What part of city are you in
-
I LIVE RIGHT DOWN TOWN 11TH AVE AND 18STREET
-
Yup... a ride with Slim should teach you plenty in one day.
That man knows how to drive.
-
WELL IM EXCITED CANT WAIT CAN REACH ME AT 403-992-0201
-
ill call you in a bit

Thanks - I'll drive then. I guess I'm just used to taxpayers paying for my mistakes off-road...time to take the plunge :o myself
I never drove an M38A1, but spent many hours in an Iltis, MLVW, 5/4, CUCV and a bit in a CJ, but I think that was a different style of driving than what I'll see this weekend.
See you guys Sat. morning :D

lol i think i seen you sliding side ways on the river by 4 corners, i was in a green tj (brown lol) there was also two chevys a green grand and a browish tj, black yj
-
I'm running stock with new 33" Wrangler Duratracs. However, unfortunately I can't make this one. Got family comin in from outta town. :-\ Hopefully next run!

I won't be there, but I'm sure you will be fine. Just remember to listen to the run leaders and follow their instructions.... 8)
-
got my winch fully reinstalled and works great, so the pook will be in attendance with winch and CB!
-
90% sure on coming on this run. Im coming up from Lethbridge was wondering what would be the fastest way through (or preferably around) Calgary. Looking at Google map it looks like I should take the 22X west to the 22 North then head straight up to Chochrane from there. Anyone have a faster or more prefered route?
-
#2 (which becomes McLeod Trail, west on Glenmore which becomes Sarcee, then west on #8... north at the traffic circle (hwy 22), that pops you right into Cochrane. You'll be coming in early, so traffic is nonexistant.
-
Ok great thanks. Wasnt sure about the traffic situation but if you say it will be good than ill take that route.
-
Count me in.
No winch or CB though.

heh I used to have my Iltis "Pilots license"... :D ;)
we always used to fight over who got to drive the officers around... better than sleeping in the mud in November.
-

If its when you were crossing the river to go to 4 corners then yep, that was I.
I stopped to let the convoy by then popped her in to 4x4 and let the 650 rip to make sure it engaged and did one hell of a slide as a result. (I need new tires on that quad!) ::)
-
I'll be coming and hopefully driving. I just replaced the valve cover gasket, so as long as the oil leak is gone I'm in.
33's, winch, no cb (yet).
-
33's, winch, no cb (yet).
33s and winch on what ? ;)
-
Are we meeting at the Smitty's in Cochrane on Saturday morning? What time are we planning on leaving from there?
-
We will meet at Smittys parking lot in Cochrane at 8:30am
-
33's on a CJ-5, 4.2, Motorcraft carb, open diffs.
Better? :)
-
Holy beeeep
7 pages for a stocker run
good times
have fun
-
How often do these open runs happen? I just got my ZJ trailworthy and now a scheduling conflict means I can't attend this weekend.
-
We try to have a club sanctioned open run once a month. I don't think we have one in April mainly due to the amounts of mud. And a lot of us are taking that time to work on our rigs.
-
Sorry guys, can't make it. I'd love to come out and learn the area but can't this run.
-
I am interested in this run but I'm just wondering how tight the trails are? I have a 2010 JK (stock) and I don't want any trail stripes just yet. I like to flex it's muscles not break a leg.
-

is it not better to get trail stripes so you can brag to anyone who asks about them?? 8)
just remember: pain heals, chicks dig scars and glory lasts forever!

the trail is not tight,i think it is no mud yet,few rocks to crawl, you dont need worry about your jk.
but ,it is a jeep thing, better with some scars!
-
I'm planning on going. No CB or winch. Stock TJ, 30" BFG KM2's
-
CJSteve and I plan to come down again for this trip. I had the black and silver CJ last month and went off with Dom on some tougher trails. What time are you guys meeting at the gravel pit. We are coming down from Innisfail and Sundre and will probably just meet you guys at the pit in the interest of saving an hour of driving. Thanks
-
We will be starting at the camp ground on the Waiparous Valley Road-we should be there by 9:30 to do
waivers and air down
NOTE everyone coming from Calgary will meet at Smittys for 8:30-we all travel togther in and out!!
Remember to read all the requirements, top up with gas before we meet at Smittys, bring good attitudes
and lets have some fun
-
I really wish I could go :(
If I only had my front tow hooks :(
-

If I only had my front tow hooks :(
oh well there will be MANY more opportunities ......Get those hooks installed ;)
-
Well, either hooks or a new front bumper...my buddy with the blue coveralls that like fixing stuff really wants to buy a welder :o
-
Ill have an empty seat saturday if someone wants to ride shotgun ............. but i cant pick anyone up or drop them off after we ll have to meet at smittys in the morning :)
-
Where is the campground in relation to the gravel pit. Is it the campground by the cadet camp.
-

x2.. I have at least 3 empty comfy leather seats for anyone that can make it out to Cochrane...
-
I will be there. (No Winch or CB), :)
basically stock 2003 TJ with better tires (Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac)
What exatly qualifies for rear tow hooks? I have factory hooks on the front for sure, but I am not sure about the back but I do have a reciever hitch on the back.
-
I'll be there. Black TJ, budget lift and 31" MT's.
Cheers!

This quote got me curious:
1) Where is a convenient (easy to find) place to fuel up in Cochrane? (from Smittys)
2) I assume that a full tank of fuel is enough for the day...is that a safe assumption? (or is a fuel stop scheduled)
Is this info already in a FAQ somewhere that I simply couldn't find? ( it just occurred to me a FAQ which details the requirements for open runs and explaining why might be pretty helpful for us newbs)
Cheers
-
I wanna come but too far to go this weekend!!!!!
>:( :( ::)
-
yeh a reciever hitch with a clevis passes for rear tow point .
Where is the campground in relation to the gravel pit
-
Not sure what a clevis is nor if I have one.
-
If you have a 2" receiver you can buy D-clevis adapter for it for ~35$ most places.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clevis_fastener
just be careful with what kind of hitch you have, I had my class 1 hitch taken off and a tow point put on. I wasn't comfortable thinking about the person pulling me out with a dinky class 1 hitch (supposedly good for up to 2000lbs)
-
Anyone know where I can pick up this D-clevis adapter before tomorrow (I have to work downtown until 5:00 PM today).
-
princess auto or canadian tire would be 2 places
-
Anyone know where I can pick up this D-clevis adapter before tomorrow (I have to work downtown until 5:00 PM today).
National is open until 6 and modern 5:30
-
Front tow brackets will not be ready in time. :'( Would still like to come out and take up someones empty seat tho.
-
Forgot to mention that I will have an emply front seat available
-
National is open until 6 and modern 5:30
Modern is where I got mine. Good folks!
-
Where is Modern?
-
Full tank from Cocherane will be enough
there is a Husky gas station right near Smittys
-
See you guys tomorrow morning. Looking forward to going out.
-
jus had my cb radio installed,i tuned the antenna, but the sound turns out really shitty, hope someone can help me out on the cb 2morrow morning~~~
-
Leaving from Lethbridge at 6am should give me enough time get up there. Black limited ZJ with gold rims...dont leave without me !!!! :)
-
Full tank from Cocherane will be enough
there is a Husky gas station right near Smittys
excellent! Thanks!
-
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE THIS CAMPGROUND IS IN RELATION TO THE GRAVEL PIT. PLEASE
THANKS
For the roll call 2 jeeps from Sundre will be there but we will meet you at the campground its way closer for us than going all the way to Cochrane.
-
I believe the campground is a mile or so south of the gravel pit
-
Thanks Slim
-
Wish I could go... but I got a few more weekends I gotta put in at work before I can go play :-\
-
Hope the rest of the day went better than the start.
Got anthony to ER and ankle should be fine. I will have to make it out all day next time.
NICK
-
It sounds like everyone is okay...what happened?
-
A slip and fall on a big patch of ice.
Anthony tried to walk it off... but no luck... wasnt able to drive... due to the pain in his clutch ankle.
Nick was kind enough to give up his day... drive Anthony back to Calgary... and another passenger drove Anthony's jeep back to him at the end of the day.
-
Thanks a bunch to Slim for leading our run yesterday and for letting us all use your compressor to Air up at the 7 o'clock at night. We had a blast. We were talking about that one hill with the corner the whole way home. So thanks again and I am looking forward to getting out again. I can't wait.

Hi all, Anthony here. The ankle is broken, so no more outings for me for 6 - 8 weeks. Bummer. I am home from FMC after surgery and recovering. THanks to everyone for your support and especially to Nick for the ride and to the gentleman who brought my jeep home ( I am soory I forgot your name). See you all when I am better (hoping to make it to Jeep 101 i Jume).
