The YJ aka Beltloops (use your imagination as to why she's named that) i used to call it bulletproof, but its far from bulletproof
mods list is thus far; 4L, ax15,231. rear ford 8.8 front D30 with 4:56s and ARBS front and rear. warn m8000 winch. rubicon express 4.5" lift. bought the jeep with 30" tires and a body lift. BUT the reason i bought it was the axles were already in it. threw on a 5" lift and some 36" iroks.
when i bought it; thanks to my buddy for pickin it up in his kickass duramax.

rear swingout tire carrier
(http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s37/johnnyzj/DSC00153.jpg)
pics; she flexed 923 at the show and shine. suspension is RE leafs/shocks/shackles. i ditched the trackbars AND swaybars and she flexes pretty good for a leafsprung rig. not like a linked TJ, but decent enough.

HOWEVER iroks ripped apart my front end to many times. so i downgraded to 35s and some canyon rims. not as great as the iroks IMO but a lot easier on the driveline. this is how she sits these days.

thats pretty much it for her. future mods will include flat fenders, a SYE kit, an engine rebuild and chromo's up front. and yes i do drive it daily in the summer.
long live square headlights!!!!!

The Daily Driver is a 95 Grand Cherokee ZJ aka project RedZed. we dont' know how long i'll keep RedZed cause i have a tendency to go through jeeps apparently.
this jeep was destine to goto that cash for clunkers BS, but i saved it. it needed a bunch of work.
how she sits: 5.2L V8 auto AWD. came with factory upcountry package. i've since adder dynomax exhaust, K&N filter, RE 2" lift, Bridgestone mts, and basically rebuilt the front end.
all in all she's a great daily driver and looks gread

Here you go Doug... OK it might be from a few years ago.
I hope it's ok ... if it's not just delete it.

I have to say, your red TJ is the nicest, cleanest Jeep I have EVER seen! Look forward to wheeling with you in the new rig, and to see the changes you make to it,
Joey
Thanx much and same here! One of my upgrades will be a "detachable lead foot"... that way I will have 1/2 a chance of keeping up our boy Bnine :)
-
Hey Muffintop thats a fancy looking new Jeep.
What did you do with the red one Jeep? Do you still own that one too?
-
Still got the TJ... I was thinking of selling it but I probabaly wont get 1/2 the money out of it I have in parts alone... not to mention time and effort to install it all.
We should all refuse to sell our rigs for cheap... that way a buyer will either have to build one or buck up and pay a reasonable price.
Rant over... back to the builds ;)

heres my other toy. it started out as a cheap winter beater
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v314/rocnrol/newbeater002-1.jpg)
'80 jeep cherokee i paid $400 for. has factory t-176 four speed and a part time 208 t-case. the idea then came to me to see if i could build it into a wheeler for under $1000, including the purchase price. i went ove by maybe one or two hun ;) 8) i did the spring over in the front and a shakle flip with blocks in the rear. scooped a lockright for $80 for the rear. high steer in the front. wheels are factory waggy items from pyp, and the tires are hand-me-downs from my other jeep. still use it as my daily for the most part.

Here's my money pit. It started out as a YJ frame and tub with a 14 bolt FF and Dana 44 from a Chevy SOA with 4" lift springs :o. I installed a AMC 360, TF727, Dana 300 and the CJ front clip and custom CJ based dash. I wheeled it once on the 4" springs and was more than concerned about COG issues. So I dropped it down to 2 1/2" springs and have had it out a few times feeling considerably more comfortable on hills and off camber stuff but I think I am going to go back to stock springs SOA on 38"s and cut to fit. I have somehow changed from bigger is better to lower is better in the last year.
Its nothing special just a junk yard dog that works not too bad on the trails but there's lots of room to improve.

Okay,
So I am Jeep noob. Just bought mine in Aug 09. Here is the progress made since I purchased it in chronological order. It is a 2000 TJ Sahara.
The day I brought it home
(http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu147/parabsky/NewJeep1.jpg)
The day I put some Moabs from a 05 rubi on it.
The day I put on the 32's and the classic II's
(http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu147/parabsky/Jeepson/IMG_2103.jpg)
The day after I put on the flares and painted the top with Krylon Fusion paint (Mar 17)
The fluid under the jeep is clear and scentless, appearing to be water..
So it is pretty mild, it is on the stock ride height with 32x11.5 MT/r's on Mickey Thompson Classic II's, Bushwacker 6" urethane fenders, and Cheap HID's. I also painted the roof black to match the flares and the wheels and bumpers. I havent taken it out on a trail to "wheel" but using it for work, I havent had any issues with rubbing, just in case you are wondering.
Plans include a custom rear bumper with a swing out, possibly a new front bumper, some metal sliders and some work inside. There is a slim possiblity of a avenger supercharger as well.

CJShark, I agree awesome ride. Why isn't it on the road?
-
If its still broken from when i think it is, it was a LONG trip that was suposed to be a short run haha
-
Lost the shop I was using, so until I get 220 in my garage, fixing is on hold. And yeah Mudhawg, thats basically the last time it was moving. A brutal part wrecking trip, bad enough that I'm the only one left of that group, that still has his ride.

Hi peeps, what didn't work for me and what did .... stock d35 went to the trash and replaced with a ford 8.8,6 inch lift with short arms went else were and replaced with 8inch and long arm in front and 5.5 in rear with revolver shackles,4.0l didn't work went to a knocking jeep and replaced with a 350 sbc, 700r4 the aw4 was just a piece but I shouldn't have pulled 3/4 ton chevys and yes the 4.0 was a brick but it ran great but didn't have enough . Iv'e been building my XJ for over 12 years and enjoyed every moment .

How do I post pics ? Tried the insert image tab with a fail .

You can do it one of two ways. If you host them on another site you can link them in using the img link [i m g] [/i m g] (course take the spaces out) Like this
(http://www3.telus.net/fug/P8082346%20(Large).JPG)
or you can click additional options and attach an image that way (although you have to make sure they are under 6144K in size... about 6meg)
-
oh thats what your jeep looks like fug. did you have to wipe the dust off the pic?
-
Sigh.... It did make me a little nostalgic and misty eyed. Sadly... my dog is still broken too ... the leg hasn't grown back ;)
-
COOL jeep can't wait to see it out on the trails looks good fug.

Robin had 6 dogs past away since last time I saw that thing on the trail
-
I don't have the attachment boxes to upload pics .... sorry
-
Start a photobucket account or similar. Upload you pics/videos you wish to share. On photo bucket you have a few sharing options. Generally I click "direct link" and it automatically copies the correct url for you. Then on the CJA message toolbar, click the bottom second from the left icon above the smilies so you get this: "[/ img]"
Then click in between and press CTRL on your keyboard, and while holding CTRL press the letter "V":
your link will be here[/ img] You aren't really able to attach media like you might do in an email.

Everytime I see a built ZJ it reminds me of midgets in homemade airplanes. All they need is a Tina Turner air freshener hangin from the rear view and a driver sportin thee most badass frosted mullet and they'd be perfect. :)

How come its only got 3 holes on the side ???
-
cause its a v6 that can... about 350hp at the wheels with about 450 ft/lbs probally 100 on top of both those numbers at the flexplate.....its fwd so its not meant to belots of power loss but still fun as hell
-
looks like a 3.8l buick motor with a blower on it :D Which vehicle do you guys have up there that thats goin in?
-
Thats pretty sweet! ... and probably hard to keep strait!!
-
easy t0 keep straight with a 255 wide drag radial on a 16 on the front with kyb agx adjustagle gas struts, eibach coils and everything brand new in the front end and a aluminum subframe..... it hooks harder then most people expect alot of people give up before they should... they just dont know what to expect when it doesnt spin at all just a little squeak and a whole lotta screamin... its in a 97 buick regal greatest sleeper ever... bigger things kill me but i have taken some good ones out....
took out a bmw 135I this summer 3.0l twin turbo 300hp 300ftlbs and bmw traction control... and my trans pan was black when dropped with clutch material and a couple chunks from the last diff exiting the cover..... so it wasnt 100%...

This is my humble rig. Started its life out to me as a females drivers "I hit something and thing the frame is bent" get it out of my garage jeep. frame wasn't bent, just the tie rod and LCA mount. this is how it looks from the last mod... wheels. had to park beside a completely stock jeep that day too....
Yes i know i have death hooks hanging off the front. its kind of an inside joke with my buddies.

A couple shots of the newly built JKU at Waiparous. The mods include: 5.5" Rock Krawler X Factor Lift, 36" Iroks, Genright Tire Carrier, Warn Rock Crawler Bumper, and Warn 8274. Thanks to Jay and Eric of Chanda for a great job on the lift. Please forgive the snorkel - I am dumb enough to suck mud/water in the air in take from time to time. Hoping to reduce damage next time I have poor judgement.
My thoughts on wheeling the JKU versus my old TJ?
Pros: long wheel bases makes hills a dream; more space to bring "stuff"; the 4:1 transfer case; bigger gas tank (i need it); has road manners of a Bentley.
Cons: the engine just aint a 4.0 (although with 4.10 gears it has no trouble going up any hill at Waiparous in 3rd gear in low range, but sounds like a Caravan); all kinds of "technology" like traction control (die!); and seat belt warning lights (don't tell me what to do).

this is the red XJ i put together for my parents to use when they visit... and for me to abuse when they arent visiting ;D
1998 XJ 2 door, 4.0L, AW4, hp dana 30, 8.25. i wanted something simple and smooth. when i bought it there were a few vibrations that annoyed me. so, IRO solid uppers and lowers with clevite rubber bushings, IRO heavy duty adjustable track-bar, 2" coil spacers on V8 ZJ coils, rough country rear shackle drop brackets with longer shackles. longer stainless brake lines. Doetsch Tech 8000 dampers all around. i picked up most of this stuff from Jay at Chanda, good bang for the buck. while the suspension was being replaced it was easy to remove the front and rear axles. and easier to re-build them when out. front differential was overhauled, housing cleaned out, better knuckles with better calipers i had installed. rear 8.25 got an auburn LSD, overhauled as well with new rear brakes. added some used 15x8 soft 8 wheels with 31" BFG A/T. everything fits perfect when flexing it out, some trimming at rear wheels was needed. annoying vibes gone. tires have some vibes to them but it cruises at 120 just fine. with the OEM clevite bushings in the arms there are no knocking noises over small or big bumps in the road. rides very nice i must say. its a little harsh on smaller bumps but it handles the bigger ones just fine. the front bumper is a plain front aftermarket bumper i bought used from Immortal, found tabs at princess auto for the front shackles, front hoop was ordered through Chanda from Genright. i added some metal for a stronger mount at the body and installed some VisionX lights. pretty much ready to wheel, could use some skid plates next i figure...
-
Nice and clean rig Eric!! Good Job!

Are your front tires installed backwards specifically for reversing out of mud pits?
-
The guy I bought the jeep from had them that way. He had put special locking lugs on so I have not been able to locate the right socket for them yet. They will be installed into there proper position asap.

Here's some updated pics of my 98. Getting a little more lift soon, and 4.10 geared D30 and 8.25 axles. I have all the parts, axles are geared. Just got them back today as a matter of fact. All they need is a good cleaning, coat of paint and time to put them in!.
AX-15 swap is after that. So much to do, and so little time!

New wheels on, just gunna get a budget boost for now to clear them. No lift is OK for driving around town, just can't get carried away with urban wheeling.

Word of advice for you.
Rotate those tires religiously. I loved my KM2's but they will wear funny and quickly if you dont keep up on your rotation.
Otherwise they have been great for me at 8psi offroad ;)

An update since page 3: still not back to a Jeep yet, I know ;D
I am actually coming up on 5 years of owning this rig, which is a record for me owning any car.
OEM
4.56 Gears, front/rear E-Lockers, 4:1 t-case, cast iron diffs, 5-speed manual transmission, 3.7L inline 5-cyl
Mods
-Added a 12.5K winch
-Jay rework the bumper and add a skid plate when he was back at Chanda
-Put on some 16x10 Mickey Thompson classic lock rims wrapped in 35" Toyo's
-Installed 4" Ranch lift plus RS9000XL adjustable shocks myself
-Dave over at Broken Axle put in some stainless brake lines for me and a new front CV
-Added a snorkel after soaking my air filter one day, lol
-Switched to MasterPull Synthetic winch line
-had the fenders sprayed with line-x... ended up doing the rest of the truck top to bottom to cover up all the scratches more recently
Future?
Not sure, maybe an exhaust system at some point. I wanted to change out the front lights as well, these ones were put in temporarily when Shaw GM melted down my nice ones by turning them on with the covers on and I just haven't gotten around to replacing them. Overall I've really been loving the setup as is and the engine and drive train is still all stock. No major trail break downs in the last 3 years or so, so things are working properly finally. The Rancho suspension articulates really nicely and it just seems to flow like water over top uneven ground which has made up for the longer wheelbase.
Here is a photo from the Urban X SW store grand opening about 2 weeks ago:

Excuse the super crappy cell phone pics, but this happened :o
The jeeps been apart for around a year and a half, on track to have it driving by mclean opening weekend.
At this stage there isnt much left to do before wheeling, Gotta pull and finish weld the cage, get pats to lengthen my rear Dshaft and outside of that its just small things ;D
What started off as a 5.3 swap ended up being a 15" tub and frame stretch, New cage, Mastercraft seats, harnesses, rear locker, diff covers, custom half top, new lighting, and so on ::)

On a side note that must have been some good pucker factor. I bet you were grabbing seat with your cheeks ;)

Im not going with a completely separate truck bed.
But I have a cracked hardtop that going im going to chop and turn into a half cab with a bulkhead underneath. And bend up a quick bedcage in the back to eventually throw a tent on top.
Something like this brute

Yes because it was decided that the public doesn't know designated from non... and a pic that gets published in the paper (and it has happened) just makes us look bad.

Thanks! It's been a lot of time and money so far haha, yours too, it looks very outlandish. What size of tires and lift are you running?

I'm on 33x12.5-R15. I got them for a good deal. They've worked great but next time I'll run a narrower tire. I have the X-Series Rough Country 4.5 inch lift ( control arm drop brackets and new leaf springs ). I hollowed out the front flares to clear the tires. The rear occasionally makes contact so I'll have to sort that out one way or another. Looks like we are/have built similar machines!

A cabover? Interesting... 8)

Not just any cab over, a Jeep FC-170! This truck was the catalyst for my love for cabovers, pretty stoked to have one, even if currently its not much more then a pile of rusted metal lol.

That will be a pretty nice project. Never seen one in person but they are pretty iconic.
