Title: Project NINE 7.0
Post by: AV.NINE on June 06, 2011, 09:44:18 PM
Started with this:

Then went to this:

As of last week:

Then spent some money at Chanda (thanks Jay) and some more money, and some fabbing....

as it sits today:

(Special thanks to Jeff for all his hard work and garage, and thanks to Glen for his beer and monsters. Those fenders are ALOT of work)

Looks pretty damn sweet.  Ever had any issues with the police regarding your tires poking out past the fenders though?

Not as of yet. I find calgary city police are alot more tolerant than red deer rcmp and the sheriff's. I dont speed or drive wreckless or drive with my stereo cranked so they always just stare. Then I wave lol

from all the times ive been out wheeling with him there holding up just fine ..

people over react about the little diffs but if you got skills and patients then wheeling on small diffs will not be a problem .. its the heavy footed people that break even with 60's under them

Oh I totally agree and if you drive with skill and know the limits they can work quite well.  The skinny pedal is evil

Heck if your taking it this far why screw around with the 6cyl and an Aw4? Grab a chev 350 with a turbo 400, dime a dozen and parts availability galore.

Yes  ;D

Maybe it's just my 2" iPhone screen, but doesn't look like half shaft to me (7").
Looks like 5" shaft. Lower it 4" and you'll have to drive like grandma to keep the mounts in tact and shocks from blowing. Unless you have some massive bumps...

Is it back in cowtown now? I wanna see

New work done (people complaining I dont update my build threads):

New tires, brakes are done, anti-rock in the front havent welded on my diff tabs for it yet. I had to shorten my sliders a couple inches to work with the AEV highline rear flares. Still trying to keep this road legal-ish. Cruising around town...

Steering is pretty much done. Have to add my cross bar for my hoops in and re-enforce them as well.

I switched my tcase for a dana 300 with a 4:1 kit. But found out today my clocking ring is too thin. Its 3/8's and I need 7/8's to work with my aw4.

I also ordered up a new rail shifter for the aw4 but it hasnt arrived yet.

She say's she has no problem hitting french guys with her man hands.  :o

fumed off this week.

Got my drive shafts re-done... again. Was getting ready to test drive and just adjusting some links and junk. Went to jounce the front shock and as soon as I moved it it sunk. All the pressure leaked out.

So I could rebuild it again and change the orings but then I said frack IT! Now I have 14" Coil overs coming my way.

Its honestly like my jeep just doesnt want to drive until 2012....  >:(

Well typically I get 1 week night and 1 day (Monday's) to work on my jeep and if there's been good progress I'll post up some updates. It's the little stuff like yoke installs, new rims and tires, drive shaft installs, welding mounts for brakelines, bending new brake lines, paint etc that I rarely report about.

It's not a race, though no matter what Jeff says he won't be done till march/april. He has it all planned out but it's the little things that take alot of time and things you don't think about. Not to mention waiting for parts. When I started I thought I was looking at 3 days. As of today it's been 5 months. But keep in mind, I've done tcase swap, tranny swap (not an easy one), coilovers with hoops and frame re-enforcing, steering box with hydro assist, all stuff he is getting away with not doing. Well as of yet...

I supposed "done" means different things to different people.

My done would be fully wheelable minus 5.38s and lockers. I'll run my 4.10s and LSD for a year.

Jeff's "done" to me would be him out on the trail with fully built diffs that are 10 feet away from his jeep because all his goober mig welds broke.

Ya your right jeffy you'll be "done" before me :)

Ps. Mods me and Jeff are best friends forever no need for post deletes (rainbows and hearts!)

lots of work done with no updates lol

All welded up.

Welded up the genright crossmember.

Bolted her in.

Almost done, sitting on its own (well assisted by an engine hoist in the back, need to swap out coil overs).

Look at all that dust... 7 months worth.

Next weekend will be swapping out coilovers, bleeding the brakes, and bolting in the rear drive shaft and shes done.... well for now...

This is why I have 4 spare donut tires for my jeep.  Too bad I don't have a garage....  Or a lift....

I supposed "done" means different things to different people.

My done would be fully wheelable minus 5.38s and lockers. I'll run my 4.10s and LSD for a year.

Jeff's "done" to me would be him out on the trail with fully built diffs that are 10 feet away from his jeep because all his goober mig welds broke.

a jeep is never done.............

so 42s and 4.10s eh?  you gonna drive around on the street in low range?  ???   :P  you gonna toss a banana peel and some bolts into that LSD to make it do something other than suck?

ok joking aside, it looks good.   :)

The only thing that separates a night change and a day change is proper lighting.  Ziplock bags, magnetic trays, and 3 SKILLED set of hands with some good lighting and you can be in and out in 3-4 hours.

Yeah, but if the engine blows we won't have to work on it and can have a party... Just sayin. There are other options to an engine swap at night in a field.

Big thanks bud. I was pretty proud to have the quickest outfield track time in my class and only 4 pro-mods beat it. Had I slowed down a touch in the frame twister on my last lap I probably could have said the same about the inside track. But its about the show and fans, i said Saturday night if I wasn't getting first I wanted to put on a show.

We got some wicked go pro footage, will post it up in a bit. Was a great feeling to see what I can put it through without breaking and then what my limits are...

2nd time driving it though lol

I broke 2 gears in my tcase and sheared the front output shaft:

And now to put it back together...

Also I broke my rear driveshaft ujoint/cv joint.

Some good lookin carnage. Staying with 262's or going to try and find some 4's? 4 might be a bit low for your auto though.

This is the 4, called teraflex with part numbers their price was approx $500 for 2 gears, then "Doug" said "well how about $100 each?".

So new gears should be here next week unfortunately I'll miss the show and shine.
