Title: Winter Tires on a Rubi Unlimited
Post by: tiju1000 on November 06, 2017, 07:28:01 AM
Hey,

we just moved from Calgary to Okotoks and my wife will DD our Rubi Unlimited.

Our Rubi has the stock tire 255/75 R17 with are kind of good in mud and kind of good on dry road.

I always had Dedicated winter tires on all our cars and I love the option.

if I want to keep the original Rim 17 inches any one has some advice on a good Winter tire... not M+S but real winter one.

Thanks
Thierry

I believe bfg at ko2's and duratracs have the snowflake logo. Toyo AT2's work pretty good in winter as well.

Our Rubi is still stock... since april... yes don't laugh  :)

What would you recommend put the Ko2 on the original rims, buy another set to have bigger wheel ( if possible without suspension mods)... or just go and buy a set of steel wheel...

What size ?

You could do a dedicated set of winters on stock rims or on steel rims. Or new summer tire's on different rims. You've got options. Either way works. As for size that's up to you. You could do stock size for winter tire's and upsize for summer tire's. Stock jk's have room to go up one or two sizes depending on which rims are used. Also if you have any thoughts or plans to lift your jeep then plan your tire size accordingly. The tire options work well in winter and summer. Could run one set all year as well, a lot of people do this when they lift their jeeps.

So will a 285/75R17 with 1.5 spacer make sense to start with and drive it on the road.

We plan to add a lift or leveling kit later on.

You can do this but they may rub a little when flexing out with sway bar disconnected. Once you have a suspension lift, about 2" you'll have room for them fine.

Yeah they are definitely going to rub on the trail, I would say. I'm running P285/70R17 Duratracs on 17x9 rims with 4 1/4 inch backspacing...  and they still rub on occasion with a 3 inch lift.
I think a Bigger concern with the combination you're proposing below is that you're likely to encounter some shifting issues if you're running an automatic transmission. Unless of course you have a tuner already to reprogram the shift points for those tires.

I will go with the 285/70 on the 17 OEM rims and install a 1.5 inch spacer.

Thanks for all the advice.

Will try to take pictures before/after.
