Here's what Lee S. posted on Edmonton Jeep regaring the competition.

Over the last 5+ years, a lot of 4Wheelers have asked if a smaller tired class would be a viable venue for the Sunday (24th of Aug.), 31"-35" tire class. same type of rules but, not the same 'holes' as the 44"-60" trucks wandered through the privious day.
This might work ,if there are a min!! of 10+ 4x4's, willing to undertake a shorter and somewhat easier trail system, with say $140 to enter, and about $2-3000.00 in prizes to be awarded, without the dinner afterwards.
This can ONLY be set up,(A) IF? our reg. 35-42" tire class is short of active and willing entrant's (B) Volunteers are willing and able to spend 3 day's of there time, 17th.23rd+24th? to assist in the scoring, and our prize sponsor's understand the significant's of this event!
With very limited time to respond to this thread, we will have to wait untill after the 16-17th T.G.W. weekend, thanks for now,

Lee

This is the main info regaring the big tire size.
Hello 4Wheelers, Welcome to the 2008, Alberta Safari, Tough-Trail-Challenge.
As the name implies, it is a Tough-Trail-Challenge, whereby, most of the 'top' 4x4's in Western Canada compete for $Thousands in prizes, sponsored by 18-20 companies involved in the 4x4 community.

This is the 13th year Robert Lee Shonert has opperated the Alberta Safari offroad park (http://www.safarioffroadpark.ca) and the 2008 Tough-Trail-Challenge, (T.T.C.) hense forth we shall refer to this event as the A.S.C., Alberta-Safari-Challenge, so as not to confuse it with the "Top-Truck-Challenge" (T.T.C.), in California put on by Four Wheeler magazine.

Last years event appeared in the Edmonton Journal, The Canadian 4x4 mag., the Edmonton Sun, and the Feb., issue of Petersen's 4Wheel and Offroad magazine, it's sorta the 'Grand-Prix' of Edmonton for 4x4's!.

This year we will again run two tire size classes, 36"-42", on smaller trucks and 44"-54" tires on fullsize trucks, they may be running together but only competing within there tire class. With all of the same prize sponsorers and some new ones, we will be able to keep the cost to enter same as last year, $300 for 36"-42" class and $350 for the 44"-54" tire class, and includes free camping Fri and Sat, Sat night tenderloin of beef barbeque dinners, and 2 copies of the new dvd.
Last years prizes were a set of 44" Boggers, 40" Boggers, 35" Yokohama's, 33" Mickey Thompson's, 7) $1000.00 prizes, and 6) $500.00 prizes, and free whinch weights for all of the 30 entrants $1,500.00, making this event the richest payout in the 4Wheeling world.

If you are interested in enterring you must send myself an e-mail, at [email protected] (NO p.m.'s please), with your name and some basic 4x4 spec's, once you recieve your confirmation you can remitt your favorit pic to a new section on this form. Other sub., headings RE; min. 4x4 spec's, volunteers, spectater rules, videographers, prizes, itinerary, to follow shortly.

Thank you and good luck!
Lee

Hopefully we'll get to see some Calgary Jeepers competting or just enjoying the show.

for our class will be technical of camber, with tree stumbs, hill climbing, some mud, but mainly technical stuff.
I'll struggle cause of the long wheel base.

Change in plan, but not set in stone

Well guy's some of the 36-42" class, have now dropped out because of Mechcanical and work related, so as of now we have 5, 2) JK's, and 3) TJ's, all 33-35", and i have not checked my e-mails for 2 day's, so the jury is still out but the sponsored prizes are still coming in!
We might ?? be able to run the smaller tired class, in behind the 36-42's on the Saturday venue, you know,,run with them but your not competing against them!. That way the deadlineline could be extended, and we may not need 10 minimum 4x4's,,,i'll get the "rules" posted on my site in the morning, cheers Lee

Apparently, I don't know how to read a calendar!
I thought the event was *next* weekend, not this *past* weekend!  >:(

I'm up at work anyways, three more sleeps then this 16day shift is over. GoshDarnFrackingSonOfABus!

How did everyone do?

Had a BLAST!! Local Jeep Guru Bnine took first place in his class!!

That was a BLAST!!!

Congrats to Bnine for taking 1st place in the 37-42 tire class...well actually it was a tie for 1st place with Son of Sam (Kevin) the previous years winner.  Way to go Bnine, not bad for a two week old rig!!!    8) 8) 8)

A very very close compition considering only 1 point seperated 2nd & 3rd place.  So congrats as well to Brink (2nd place) & Gis (3rd Place).

The 35 and under class was a blast to run and will be a popular event again next year!  Despite numorous driving error and locker failure in the last course, I was surprised two sneak in to take 3rd place.

Congrats to Bill Joey Brink and Joel was a great weekend up at Lee's and i cant wait to go back i still think the best line was Son of Sam's spotters GF while Bill was going through an offcamber obstacle  "He must be a confident driver to not have a co pilot", Me "He has a co pilot" Her "where at" Me "right here taking pics" hahaha

Great Times!
We're expecting lots of rig for next year for the small tire class, which I found more fun the the big rigs.
Thanks to all that showed up, it was a pleasure having you there.
