Well, can't do the engine swap on the front doorstep.... ::)

So after working until 2:30 in the morning in the garage with the 3B in there and tonnes of other stuff:

And it's a single car garage....glad these things are narrow.

So here is what we started with in the garage yesterday at around 3:00 or so.....

Bit of a mess, and it's coming out.

Let's get the wires labelled for removal, so I don't have to search for where they go back when the engine is replaced:

And gone:

Power steering pump does NOT have to come out, just tie it up:.  But the radiator removal makes for some nice room.   Unfortunately I tripped over something and fell onto a jack, landing on my left hip.  So the choice was wimp out and go let it stiffen up....well, it's feeling better now. Notice the zip lock baggies and labels for making sure nothing gets lost (translation: make sure there are no extra parts left over once reassembled)

The removal of the bellhousing was a bit of a headache last night, but after consulting with Apu and thinking outside of the box, I managed to get it unbolted.  Thank god for breaker bars in hard to reach places and stubby wrenches.

Let's pull that sucker!

And an empty engine bay:

That's where I stopped for the night. Tomorrow I will start to prepare for putting the new engine back inside. Didn't make it to the garage to start on the bellhousing until 8:30, so hopefully I can get out there sooner tomorrow and get more done that what I did tonight.  :-/

That's awesome!!!\

Got a 47 CJ-2A myself got it for a case of beer!!! The body has no rust what so ever!!
Just gotta finish school and build her up.  Putting in a 4.3L with a NV 4500 or 3550 and a dana 300.
I got the stock axles but gonna scrap them for a D30 in front and either a D44 late model or
a 8.8 with disks.

One question tho.

Where is the gas tank mounted on your lady of glory?

Mine is stock under the driver seat and don't know if i like it there.

It's alive.  It goes forward, it goes backwards, and it took two weeks.   There some glitches, but nothing major I don't think.  Kind of like a playoff beard, my clothes I started working in two weeks ago are soaking in the tub with some Simple Green.  ;D

Thanks to all the guys who have been answering my questions for me the past two weeks.   :-*

I'm having a beer.    8-)

Thanks all the comments, and thanks for the timing tip....from other sites, that's the general consenus.  Guess I need to start leaning how to set the timing and get a light. :)

Been a while, and had some overheating problems with the girl.  I tossed in a new thermostat, and instantly had several leak problems from the housing....6 tries I think, but it's stopped.  Brushed the floor and painted it gloss Tremclad black, then onto the softtop....in an unheated garage.

So how do you get one of these on in an unheated garage? Put two space heaters very carefully INTO the jeep, and drape the top over....the garage was making my breath clouds appear, but the top was toasty enough to fit.

Need to work on the steering, as the box is leaking and the steering is freaking scary.....50km/hr is scary enough.

Pics...pics....pics....

Hard to see with the flash, but they are a nice charcoal grey right now, much darker than they look.  Not sure if I am going to make them black, or leave as is.  Hmmm....think bout that one for a bit. I used the DuPont Fabic paint from Auto Value, as Wally World only has the yellow left. If you have a Wally World near you, they are probably blowing out this fabric paint, so pick some up if the colour is something you want that doesn't make you vomit.

The two rattle cans I used tonight were the Tremclad and the DuPont.  The DuPont paint sprays in a much finer mist and has less tendancy to run. If I was doing a full rattle can job on this rig, I would go to a paint supplier and order some rattle cans that have a nice atomized (sp?) spray instead of the cheapo brands. Makes a huge difference.

Anyway, onto the floor....rolled Tremclad gloss.  I went gloss, as I have found in the past that flat tends to collect dirt, something about the surface compared to gloss.  I want to be able to clean out the inside easily if I have to, so gloss it was. Here's the primed floor:

And here is the first paint coat:

Wow. Everything looks dull and dusty compared to that floor....no need for a dome light I guess. lol

BTW, I'm thinking of doing the Willys logo in black, and also the wheel wells.  Plus I have an idea for a leather winch cover....

I like. Your paint scheme idea sounds like a good one too. Definitely black out the wheel wells with a truck bed liner or some kind of rubbery undercoat.
