The following activities have taken place, or will take place that I would like to update you on:
In April of 2005, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development unveiled a proposed access management plan (GAMP) for the Ghost area that would severely restrict access to all forms of motorized users by up to 95%. Since that time, the various motorized user groups, including the AURS, have attended meetings and provided input and information to SRD on this proposed draft plan.
The Motorized Stakeholders attended an information session hosted by SRD on October 21, 2005. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss trail criteria and the methodology being used by SRD in determining sustainability of the trail network in the GHOST. In attendance at this meeting were representatives of RMDRA, AOHVA, AURS, the ASA, and FAN (a non-motorized group). Information was presented to the attendees and a question and answer session followed. No commitments were provided by SRD on the status of GAMP, other than the information provided on the data gathering methods that were used to inventory the trail system.
On October 30th, there will be a meeting of all stake-holders (motorized and non motorized), where SRD will provide another feedback and consultation opportunity. This will be followed by a ten day window (to November 10th) where feedback and information will be accepted from stakeholders and other interested parties (that's you).
Please keep writing letters, indicating your support for all forms of Motorized recreation in the Ghost...
