Small update. Had some time in the garage today. I started on the rear suspension. I got the skid all tacked together and bolted up ready to start on the rear link mounts.
Drilled holes in the frame, and welded in dom tube inserts (crush sleave) this is where the skid/cross-member bolts onto, did this for the front and rear of the skid.
and the skid, which will be plated with 1/8" plate with dimples for strength.
21" belly clerance
got the rear links all cut to length
I also wanted to share some tips and tricks when welding.
A great way to weld up holes or in my case two pices of angled 1/4 plate. is to use some brass.
In order to weld these two pices of metal together with a flat surface on the inside, I used some 2" brass plate.
clamped it all together to give me my 2" inside width, clamped the brass plate and welded it all up
and the final result is a welded mount with a flat even weld on the inside that does not require grinding, which would be almost impossible.
this trick works great when you want to weld up holes.
