Fender flares issue
« on: February 02, 2013, 02:58:32 PM »
On my 2000 tj sport I've managed to get off my driver side rear fender
And I'm trying to mount my newish bushwacker flat flares, I've been reading the
Instructions and it says to mount to factory nuts. Now my problem is I don't have
"Factory nuts" and I cannot get to the inside to replace the "factory nut", does anyone else have the flat
Flares? Or have had the same problem? Any suggestions?

Did they not give you 16 "flange nuts"?

i think i might be confused im trying to get the rivites out i grinded them off
and im trying to attack the bracket closest to the drivers door rear flare but theres nothing i can screw into,
and i cant get to the inside of it because its behind welded steel.

Did you unscrew the bolts for that piece or did you cut them off?

i drilled them out they were riveted and just kept spinning, i think i might try to find some decent drywall anchors.
the ones that collapse and expand when you get them through, other than that i cant think of another way to secure the bracket.
its impossible to get on the other side without cutting sheet metal from the inside.

Those were nutserts, in order to keep them from spinning you pull out on the flare to hold them tight against the inside of the fender. Since they got drilled you're hooped now for reusing them. Drywall anchors might be a good solution now aside from cutting out a section of your inner fender and welding it back in.

The only drywall fastener I would use is a 9/16 pan head screw. Got lots if you want some. And screw the flare straight in to the sheet metal.
