Need a 2.5l Motor for 2000 TJ
« on: May 14, 2017, 10:37:50 PM »
Hi Guys,
This is my first post on here.  One of the members suggested I ask around.
My daughter has a 2000 TJ and I believe she blew the motor this weekend.  She was driving to work and something went bang.  We had it towed to the house and I checked the compression and the only cylinder that had any was cylinder 1.  Im thinking she may have snapped the crank.  I may pull the oil pan off and see what I can see.  But in the meantime, I thought I would ask around.  Anyone know where to pick up a rebuilt and reasonably priced 2.5l engine?  What should I be paying?  I live in High River.  Anyone local that would be recommended to install?

Thanks for the help!

I pulled the oil drain plug and got blasted with coolant.  So the block is toast.  There is no rebuild.  I have a bunch of people looking for either a rebuilt or used motor right now,  There is one out in Vancouver for 2400 with 3 year 60k warranty, or a used one out in Onterrible for 1600, no warranty.  Kinda hoping for something a little cheaper and more local.
Im still trying to weigh if its worth doing or sell the jeep as is and find another.

4L is actually more of a pain to swap in than a V8 would be. According to fourwheeler.com I think it was. (You have to engineer new motor mounts, completely different engine wiring harness and computer, etc..)
