Body vs Suspension lifts

So im planning to upgrade my tires in the spring to something bigger maybe 33's?

I know that a body lift only allows you to clear larger tires but doesnt increase ground clearance, which is what a suspenion lift would do.
But if I get a body lift to clear bigger tires (on sort of a budget so dont wanna spend toooo much), wouldnt the bigger tires increase my ground clearance?

Just wondering whats the best option here. My fenders are already cut. I was also thinking if it would be worth doing a combo of both a body and suspension lift?
This would still be my DD i just wanna do some trails on the weekends. I dont have the budget to regear so I dont want to get 35's or anything...

What model Jeep do you have? A TJ or JK can be lifted by putting spacers on top of the coil springs. Probably pick up a set for less than $200

Unless you get new axles, bigger tires are the ONLY thing that will actually increase your ground clearance.

That said, there's a reason that most of us opt for a suspension lift instead of a body lift. A good suspension system will increase your ability to keep the tires in contact with the ground....and that's the name of the game.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

You can clear 33s with a body lift. I've done it, but i don't recommend it being done again. Along with the body lift comes more body roll, your shift linkage likely wont work correctly anymore, your radiator will hang out from the bottom and look horrible because everything behind the body will stay in place, and its just not the best way to go... To clear tires sure, but save up a little, and clear the tires the best way with a suspension lift. In the end, that will treat you right in the long run.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

 On my two-door JK  I’m running a 3 inch rough country suspension lift the last couple years and it’s treated me well. I’m also running 32’s.
 The kit was relatively affordable at around $380 US off of eBay but of course exchange rate was a little better than as well.

As far as I know, the only thing that you'll need to clear 33's on a JK is a bit of trimming and wheels with appropriate backspacing for larger tires.

The JK Rubicons come from the factory with 32" tires...and I actually saw someone run 35's on a stock height JK one time....but that involved a LOT of rubbing, so that's not necessarily something I'd suggest.

Cut, regear, lockers, bigger tires, and beadlocks. Done. I wish I had listened to the old timers when I was building.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

Thanks for the info guys. Think i will do a 2" suspension lift and 34"s or 33"s... time to start saving up though!

Would i need to regear for 33/34? Lockers and beadlock would be nice but i dont think thats in the budget just yet.

I think 3.21. I was looking at the 2.5" tera lift, but ill have to get an adjustable track bar and a better tire mount for the back (stock one cant hold 35's i guess) and then ill probably need a new rear bumper too haha. Not sure what to pick for tires yet

Tire's are always a hot topic. There's so many to choose from. Be honest with yourself on what your goals are for this jeep. If you really want it to perform off-road and want a mud tire you will sacrifice your street/winter performance. A good aggressive AT can do a lot off-road but will never be as good as a mud tire. Tire size is up to you, a 285/75R17 is about 34" tall and fits well, but if I recall you have 16" rims, there should be a size that fits your rims fairly well too.
If you keep your lift height to about 2" you can keep your stock track bars, it's not ideal, adjustable track bars make a big difference in my opinion. But good coils and shocks are very important as well.

makes sense. Yes they are 16's, and Id prefer to keep them if i could. I dont mind doing the 2.5 and buying a new track bar, because Im thinking of already buying another track bar anyway, but as for tires go I was thinking just a solid AT tire, I wont be doing any mudding or anything (just simple trails no mud pits) and it is my DD so ill need something for the street too. Ill look at tires in that size though thank you so much!
