I hear that there is a bracket that you can install, to put bigger speakers in to replace the smaller stock ones. Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks guys!
Michael

These plates I have found on ebay and a couple shops in the states...they allow you to up in 5 1/4 inch speakers instead of 4x6s. The advantage is better sounds in the front due to a round speaker.

Here is the ebay site:

If you get them let me know how they work out, since i am thinking of doing the same. I was trying to find a template and make them myself, but no luck. Suppose i could make my own template.

Awesome! thats exactly what I needed, thanks guys. I think i am going to try and just fab up those brackets. I think Lexan/Plexi glass should be strong enough... If I can find some scrap sheet metal, I'll prolly go that rout.

Thanks!

ive made my own using mdf board and also made a set using some sheet metal.  i would use the sheet metal as the mdf requires some shaving to fit properly.
just use the factory speaker for a template for the 2 holes on top and 2 holes below.  and in a few mins you'll have your very own bracket.

for added sound quality , stuff the area around and behind the speaker with a fibre fill

Did you ever get around to fabbing these brakets up. Just hoping to find out what you used and how it worked out.

I actually have a buddy that does audio installs, and he recommended 5.25s over those small component sets.

I'll keep that in mind! although i think I am gonna get me an awesome deal on some JL 5.25s.....

Considering you are an audio installer, do you have a sub(s). If so i would really like to see some pics of what you did with your box.

I put 4x6's up front, made my own brackets.  They work well.  As for a sub, I took the easy road and bought a 12" truck sub box from visions.  It fits perfect behind the back seat.

I have a drawing of a bracket that I had made for my old TJ.  It allows you to use 4" speakers in the stock locations.  PM me or email me if you want a copy of it.  I have it in DWG, jpg or visio formats.

Check you speaker specs.  The opening required for the 5.25" speakers is probably much less than 5.25".  The brackets I made had a hole that was 118mm (or 4.65") and the stock speaker cover went back on with no problems.  In fact, my speakers may have been 5.25" after all.  I do remember that a third of the speaker was hidden behind the dash.  I also stuffed the hole area behind the speaker with wadding to allow the speaker to build up so pressure and to isolate front and rear of the driver.
