Abandoned vehicles in Mclean Creek
« on: November 21, 2007, 08:46:53 PM »
O.K. So here is the plan. This Saturday, the 24, is the last Sat. that we can go in with trucks for this year. I want to know how many vehicles are out there that we can get to safely and recover. The Nissan is my main concern as it apears to be in a very unsafe position. Who is willing to go out on Saturday and help out? I will help to organize disposal and media coverage. I know this is short notice, but my time has been very limited lately. PM me with details if you would like to help out and get involved. I will be going to Coch. Smitty's for breakfast at 8am, and will meet everyone(anyone?) at the Mclean Creek store at 9:30 am.  :D

There's a minivan just a little way on fisher west. On one of the logging roads. I'll hang around smitty's on saturday but I'll have to leave by 7.45 or so
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

That Nissan recovery was BRUTAL!  We didn't get around to the minivan because it was getting late by the time we got the Nissan loaded & out of there, but we did run into an SRD guy and told him about it.

Thanks for organizing it Tim, and thanks to Darryl, Lemonaid Jay, Demon, Big Green and Rockcrusher for helping out as well.  Couldn't have done it without you guys!

Pics to come soon...

Nope, the wheels had been taken off and rolled down the hill.  We were able to get 2 of the 4 tires on rims back after Tim found them in the trees at the bottom of the hill, but the other two are missing.  It had been scavanged pretty good... the car was in a completely different position than it was a few weeks back so people had actually pushed it further into the trees and busted all its windows out.

Here are a couple pics from Rockcrusher I have a ton more I will post when I get the camera back from Clay:

Basically we snatchblocked it from a tree on the other side to pull it over and then we dragged it down that long hill.  There were a ton of huge blown over trees blocking the pathway on one side, so we tried to bring it through the trees and up the small bank.

There was not enough power or room to get momentum to bring it up the hill, so the guys moved the trees out of the way and we had to drag the car back up that little hill and Tim went and got his trailer through a logging road and we hooked the car up to the trailer & towed it out of there.

10am until 4pm was the total time it took until we were back at the staging area.

Brutal... that area is a complete wasteland.  All the blown over trees made it very difficult to do anything.

quick question....  is it possible to take the vin number, find the owner and have them charged for abandoning the vehicle?  or at least make them pay for the removal?

I believe Tim already did that.  It was reported stolen, how convenient.     I wanted to find out who's it was and go dump it on their front lawn along with a bill for the extraction and towing costs and a huge fine from the RCMP...

I was in contact with the RCMP several times, and was informed that they had contacted the last known owner. It was classified as 'salvage', so...we salvaged it. Not sure what the deal is though, I know of several people who have been harrassed by the cops/RCMP, about vehicles that they have sold, showing up in the stangest places(like the Bow river!), and have had a hell of a time trying to prove that they didn't own it any more. Unless someone around here is a cop or RCMP, that can help us out, I don't know what options we as users can do. Something that I have been disscussing with several people(board members), is the AURS offering a reward for info leading to the conviction of anyone trashing of abandoning vehicles in our trail systems. What do you guys think of that?
