I went to two vendors, one of which I usually find pretty reasonable, but both of their systems said that there was no gasket listed for a 2004 Rubicon with 4.0L inline 6! They had thermostats... they seemed to think that the thermostat for a Rubicon is different than that for a non-Rubicon, which I sincerely doubt. The Stant website doesn't distinguish between the two at all.
Any ideas? If I can avoid using "make a gasket" as the sole gasketing material or cutting my own from bulk material (if I can find it in my garage), I'd prefer that.
PS: This is coming up because two mechanics have suggested that my random overheating symptoms are most likely due to a sticking thermostat. I have burped the system and done all kinds of other testing etc. and just sometimes while cruising at a constant speed on a flat portion, suddenly it will overheat, then cool back to normal again almost instantly. Electric fan, which has been working properly etc.
Thanks!

Have you tried a Jeep dealer yet? If they cant find it, it is not their.
-
dealership should have it
-
you mean thermostat housing gasket ?

dealer will do you right, the parts guys are probably just confused - tell 'em its an '04 tj 4L and they probably got one under the counter ...
on the subject of dealers ( which has a inherit bad rap from the '60s man ::) ) , in the times I have compared prices they are very competitive least 1/2 the time ... and next day delivery is always an consideraton for those times when you feel gouged ...

A proper gasket is good but there is nothing wrong with a silicon gasket there. Just use a good quality silicon like permatex ultra grey.
