Ok so here it is. Im 18 years old and the whole 4x4 thing looks to be alot of fun! (also thought it was time for me to leave the import car idea behind)
Im currently looking at getting a TJ or YJ, but was thinking about it... and i dont really have any four wheelin experience.
Im lookin for someone who would be willing to take me out on day a trip so i can get an idea of how wheelin works and learn more about this trail etequite i see everyone talking about. Im willing to pay for gas to cover the trip as well as help in any situation that may arise. If anyone is willing to take me along, a friday or saturday would be a good day for me to go as i work sunday to thursday.
message me if anyone is capable/willing
Thanks!!

never go out alone
#2
it's a jeep thing,.. you wouldn't understand
LOL
LOL
LOL
;D
I love it,.. but it's expensive

You could probably ride shotgun with me the next time we go out. It won't be this weekend though.

good job on posting this thread. i thin kyou're starting in the right direction by asking those that know what works and what doesnt. tag along on some trail rides, check the club trail rides section and see which runs fit your schedule. see what the pos and negs of each vehicle and their mods are. you may want a wrangler, but maybe you want a longer wheelbase for the stability, so a cherokee might be more to your liking. either way. its goin on winter so take your time and maybe spring time will be a good time to get into a new-to-you jeep:)
this sport is never ending. so once you're in you wont be able to leave... hehehehe;)
eric
p.s. careul with that Immortal guy, hes only been out wheeling 3 times and he put his cherokee on its side all ready!!!!! hehehehhehe... right trevor???
-
Yer gettin' a beat-down Eric... >:(
little more than 3 times... and the bump-stops are in!! :P
Of course buddy is gonna want a Cherokee (XJ)... cause they ROCK!!! YJ... pshaw!!
Besides... chalk up more experience with flopping the ol' girl.
;D ;D :D ;)

Here's a hint no one touched on....how to buy. Check out some deals when you figure out what you're looking for, and take a jeeper along with you to check it out. Sometimes it is the simplest things that others notice with a little more experience. As for prices:
JK's - newest and most expensive 2 door and 4 door versions
TJ's - coming down in prices
YJ's - dirt cheap deals right now
CJ's - not as cheap, as they are either needing lots of work ($$$) or they are already built (more $$$)
XJ's - even cheaper deals for good rigs
ZJ's - original Grand Cherokees....can find some nice ones with leather interior, etc, but more cost to building them
Leaf springs or coil springs? Something to think about. Availability of parts? What do you want to do with it, and what can you AFFORD to do with it? (two DIFFERENT things)
And as stated above, you have already done a lot more that a lot of four wheelers out there did in the beginning....you asked for help and info. Best thing you could have done, and as simple as it seems, not something that happens as regular as it should. :(

Also research where you want to go with the build and price it out. TJs and YJs are easy to lift and put tiers on and be on the trail. There is so many things in the after market for them it is ridicules. XJ’s are cheaper to buy but cost more to lift and wheel. ZJ are even more.
Research what you want because once you start you will have become addicted and have too much money in the rig you will not want to switch.

TRUE DAT!!

.....
Research what you want because once you start you will have become addicted and have too much money in the rig you will not want to switch.
I'm starting to feel the effects
Got 4" lift springs, 4" lift shocks, went from 31's,.. to 33" tires,.. now I'm into fabricating a rear Drive Shaft. Already researched my own SYE for the future and have some of the parts.
Because I have a YJ,... parts have been relatively easy to find (hand-me-downs), from others either upgrading or cleaning out the garage. But the investment of money and time is very real! Your wife/girlfriend/family will think you have a secret relationship with your rig.
I'm addicted

Well it looks like i should put a little more thought into what kind of jeep ide liek to go with.
Im thinkin a little YJ or TJ would be a little more capable on the trails because of its size, but then again you guys would know a little more than me.
Immortal - I will dfinatly take you up on that offer! as long as its after the thanksgiving weekend, as i will be on the island until then. Let me know if you guys will be going out anytime after that.
Thanks all!!

YJ/TJs are great (sacrilege... I admited it), except going up hills. This is where the longer wheelbase is superior.
GO XJ!!
-
The few times i have been wheeling, i found hill climbs to give me the most adrenalin...
So the XJ just might be they way for me to go...
-
well if you want an adrenaline rush then hop in with Trevor (Immortal)!!!
the only guy i know that can flop his xj on its side doing 0 kms an hour!!!! lol!!!!
sorry trevor, i shouldnt pick on you, its just too funny:):):)
yes the wranglers can be a little sketchy on the steeps, but the shorter wheel base helps in the tight trees. and i can take the roof off in summer and let my hair blow in the wind!!!! ok no, im bald...
-
I was moving, albeit not very fast! I suppose that is why bumpstops were invented. Now to test out if these new ones are long enough.... teeheehee.
-
Looks as thoguh i will be doing some wheelin while im in bc.
im sure i will have some more questions when i get back!
-
trevor, it'd be fun to wheel with ya, while you are NOT on the end of a winch line! (my winch line, pulling aaron out hahahaha) if my RE stuff is in next week, i might be in with the new YJ, maybe ill even bring it out on the stock 30s hahahaha (still locked front and rear) haha, topless rules
-
so the wheelin in bc (where i was anyways) was pretty lame.
still lookin to go wheelin!!
-
Yeah its addicting but fun. I'll have to come out with you guys and show you what a real Jeep is, ZJ not XJ
