Hey XJer’s, I need to wire in a trailer plug. What I need to find out is what the best way to run the wiers is? I want the harness in the cab not exposed to the elements. So how have has other ran the harness.

Why do you always have to do things the hard WAY? ;D ;D

Hey Aaron. You looking to run 4 wire or 7? If you're just doing 4 it's pretty easy to splice into the tail lights(should be a 'kit' available) & hang the connector out the tail gate when you pull the trailer. This is the way I did it on the KJ. If ya wanna run 7 wire that'll be a bigger job. ;D

the kit we got for lindzs xj was just plug in and tow i belive we got it at crappy

Should be plug and play with four wires connections are behind the rug where the spare tire was and right beside the tail light. For six or seven wire just run the power wires under the plastic door trim on the bottom on the drivers side right up to the fuse box and under the rug behind the rear seat.

I have a 95 so it has the old style tail lights so I will have to splice the wirers. I am only going to run a 4 wire. What I am looking for is how did you put the wires inside is their a hole and the harness coming in already or am I going to have to drill a hole to get the harness inside.

I just flop it out when i need it ;)
I think i had to wire in mine

I actually just got rid of my 94...and I removed the brand new harness splice (4 plug) by Reese. Should fit yours...I think it was 92-96. They are about $60...I'll let mine go for $40. Was in the vehicle for 2 months, before the XJ was written off.
PM me if interested.

Ok after an exciting trip to CT for a new wiring harness for the trailer lights. I pulled everything apart and hooked the lights up according to the color coed they gave me.
Here is the issue – the drake lights on the trailer work on the same bulb as the signals, but my tail lights have 2 separate builds for turn and brake. I spliced a jumper from the brake light to the signal light and found that when the brakes are pressed the turn lights come on to. Is their another way of doing this with out having to put a diode in to stop the turn lights coming on, on the vehicle?
The other thing is I plan on shortly replacing the rear light housing with a round LED set up and using a TJ LED kit this brings the turn and brake into one light. I am doing this because the rear swing out I am going to be building will cove the turn and back up lights.
So if it is not an easy fix I am going to leave it for now and fix it when I do the light switch.
Man I like Dirt Equipment more then Road vehicles lights. Only have one weir going to them and all you need to worry about is what voltage bulb to use.
