It's almost here
We started our pumkins a few days early because my 2 oldest kids are spending halloween with their mom
Here's what we did tonight
I decided for the first time to get fancy and use a stencil for one,.. and my 2nd one,.. I read up on how to do your own stencil, so I found a pic and did my own stencil.
From left to right
Me - Darth Vader
My 7 y.o. - warewolf
Wife - Lion
Wife - spider
My 11 y.o. - Jack from nightmare before x-mas

Close up of my Darth Vader

And a very special one that took me about 2 hours to complete
Can you guess what it is? LOL

well done, jeep one is sweet

Thought I would try my skill again to make sure it wasn't blind luck that the jeep turned out half decent
I went a bit more difficult and paid tribute to my old car - RIP

The origional link I found isn't working now
http://www.carvingpumpkins.com/howto/pattern.html
but I'll try and find a couple others
this one is basic:
http://www.halloween-online.com/carve/halloween-pumpkin-carving-stencils2.html
I've been trying to find something,.. but can't,.. google search:
the pumpkin wizard
carvingpumpkins.com
I guess its a whole forum
I'll try to explain:
they did it with paint shop pro
I used corelpaint 12
Anyways
1: Select your picture
2: make it gray scale
3: adjust contrast, brightness
4: Posturize - 3 colours - black/gray/white (it's an image setting you can do)
5: Invert
try to make sure there are no "islands" of gray or white inside any black cut-out areas - thats why the adjusting of contrast and etc is needed,.. might have to back step and undo to adjust yoru contrast a few times to geet a good template.
white - no touchy
gray - shading, or just peeling the skin off
black - cut-out
Do it in that order
Here's another link to carving
http://www.canucarve.com/howto.php
edit:
Thx muffin,.. was fun and time consuming. worth it in the end - uber satisfaction
-
I bet... I was uber satisfied when I drew the face on my pumpkin... so I'm sure yours was almost unbearable :P
