Post by: calggord on October 16, 2005, 03:54:46 PM
I just aquired a 95' YJ 2.5l Std. with 217k's and I'm gonna change the oil this week and was wondering whats everybody using for oil these days? Synthetics or conventional oil? Also what brands?

any synthetic.  I usually switch to 5w30 for the winter towards the September and switch to 10w30 in late May for summer

On an old high-mileage motor, I'd stick with whatever the previous owner used. A synthetic is a good idea in winter, but might leak more easily if you currently have a small weep. If you want to so synthetic, at least use the High Mileage versions that are out now, but IMO you would be wasting your $ on synthetic until it gets really cold out.

I'd be running this with a 5W-30 semi-synthetic blend oil during the winter, and then switch to a high mileage oil during the summer.
