I like the flexibility of the electric only / gas to electric combo.

Electric motors are always more torquey.... they are used on Trains and those giant dump trucks for a reason... if only winter wouldn't kill batteries, they'd be nice to have out here....

I can just see it now, doing a water crossing with an Electric Jeep. Water + Electricity = DOA/Expensive Fix
It seems like a great idea for a street Jeep though.
Make mine a diesel. 8)

Actually that is a bit of a misconception... Most electric motor in this application are environmentally sealed. Water crossings shouldn't be an issue at all... generally water wouldn't do much to an electric motor that was designed properly.
And no more hydro lock!
I have a video of a Japanese car (looks like a smart car a bit) - they drive it through a water channel for testing. Water is up to the middle of the door and it drives fine...

Be prepared to not be able to work on your Jeep as much. A lot of the new hybrids coming out, like these, you have to have a guy with a hook standing by ready to pull the tech working on the vehicle off of it if he was to get electrocuted. And nice big rubber gloves. I have even heard about mandatory suits as well, though I am sure those will be needed less frequently.
Another things is, because of all the new technology, many of the modifications, even regular service work, will require re-calibration in order to work again, or they will be setting off codes like a christmas tree. I am not looking forward to the future of automotive technician work. Say goodbye to a lot of the mechanics and tech's you used to know. Many shops and "parts installers" will be getting phased out over the next few years.

I say *^&% hybrids. I dont like them, I dont like working on them, they are &*^$%ing up everything.

jeep might actually be the last to build a jeep like electric widget mobil - apparently these j(link below) eep knockoff's are already on the road in france ?
