Title: Questions xj yj
Post by: giorno71 on January 29, 2009, 10:09:29 PM
just wondering if the diffs in the 92 XJ are limited slip or not?  I'm replacing my 2.5 in my 94 YJ with the 4.0 ho out of the XJ would like to use the diffs if they are limited slip. and if so can i just change the gears or if i have to change the whole assembly?

Some are some aren't ... LSD is an option so depending on how the jeep was ordered/built it could have LSD.

I would think changing the entire axle out would be easier than trying to setup used gears in your YJ housing.  Neither option is going to be bolt in tho.  If you swap axles you're going to need new mounts on the front axle.

Linited silp was never an option for the front diff on a YJ or XJ.

Your YJ probably came with 4.10s if it had a 2.5L the XJ will have either 3.07s if its a stick or 3.55s if its an auto. Either way you are better off with the 4.10s if you plan to run bigger tires.

The front diff will not swap over without grinding off a lot of bracketry and mounting new perches.

If the XJ does have a rear LS it will not swap over to the YJ if its running 4.1o gears, different carriers.
