Title: 94 YJ Renegade with a Twist.
Post by: Eagle Jeeper on March 17, 2009, 07:37:35 PM
Well here is what I started with, a fairly stripped 94 YJ Renegade, with 4" lift SOA on a 14 bolt FF and 3/4 ton Dana 44 from a 76 Chevy.

Once I got it home I took the AMC360/TF727/Dana 300 combo from a 80's Cherekee and my old CJ7.  Loaded it all on the trailer and took it to Price 4X4 and Customs in Sundre for the precision fab work.  Brad does really nice work.  I got him to build the motor and tranny mounts, drive shafts, tie rod, exhaust, and shock mounts.

Brought it home and started on the wiring the other night.  The old carbureted engine was real easy to wire but the challenge lies on the other side of firewall.  The dash was completely gutted when I got it so I got a piece of checker plate to fit into the dashpad and took the old CJ gauges and push pull vent controls to try the custom dash road.  I got the gauges and the steering column holes cut out today its starting to come together.  Here's a quick pic of what its looking like.

I wasn't a big fan of the renegade flares so they went down the road.  I'm kind of a sucker for the old round lights look and had the CJ clip so I mocked up the grill and hood tonight too just to get a feel for what its going to look like.

I hope to have it finished before may long but that might be a pipe dream.  Well any input is appreciated and anyone with experience with this drive drain setup feel free to let me in on any speed bumps I might encounter.  Anyway I hope to update frequently but we'll see.

Thanks

I'm really hoping to be the guy that gets this thing together I hear its been around.  Yeh Brad is REALLY busy,  He does alot of custom stuff now not so much small mechanical stuff.  He builds alot of custom winch bumpers for what ever you need.  Right know he has a Scout that he's doing a frame off.  I think his website is www.price4x4.com

Mudhawg is it still good to pickup that rim in the next couple of days as discussed earlier.

Well I got a couple of more things done over the weekend.  Install the first draft dash and steering column.  I modified a CJ steering column and shaft to fit on the YJ steering box.  I still have alot of work to do on the dash and controls but it should be good to get her running.  Started on the brakes, got the hydro booster bolted up but still need some brake lines hooked up.  And finally and not very exciting I mounted the solenoid on the battery box in an effort to keep the fenders clear for easy removal when maintenance is required.  Heres a few pics.
