hey guys I just bought a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee. I haven't decided what im going to do with it, first mod is going to be a 2`` lift and some tires. I haven't decided what kind of tires yet so if you have any suggestions that would be great!

Hi Mike  :)

There are folks far more experienced than me in the CJA...but I think that al of us would probably agree on the following suggestions:

#1. Make sure that you have recovery points (mounted to the frame, not the bumper) on the front and rear of your rig. If you don't know how to go about that, advertise here on the "Jeep items wanted" board to see if someone has a set of the stock tow points left over from when they installed aftermarket bumpers - or maybe someone local can fab some for you.

#2. If you currently have Mud Terrain (MT) or All Terrain (AT) tires, you don't need to rush into spending a bunch of money on new shoes.

#3. Get yourself a CB. If you go into the CB shop at the Road King truck stop on Barlow, the gent there really does know his stuff.

If you have MT or AT tires, front and rear recovery points, and a CB, then you'll be welcome on most runs. This will let you get out and see what other people are running on their rigs, what works and does not work for certain obstacles, and what parts of off-roading you enjoy the most. Then you can build your rig for the type of off-roading that you like.

None of these mods are "cool" or "sexy"...but they'll get you out on the trail, and won't break the bank.

x2 on CB and recovery points. There are a few stocker runs that you should go out on.

Hey rdy2xlr8,

As a suggestion, if you don't have the factory tow hooks & armor, I would suggest looking on several boards to see if anyone is parting out their ZJ.
You can grab factory front tow hooks & skid plates from a ltd or ZJ with the up country pkg & swap them over, easy & cheap.
If you have the tow pkg, the rear tow hitch can be used, you might want to look into a (name?) receiver with a d-ring assembly..again cheap..
Get a good tow strap also,  no metal fittings on the strap, use the looped ends with a d-ring..
