Hello,
My 99 XJ 4.0liter (160,000km) is getting about 400km (city driving) a tank without any modifications.
I heard that the other Cherokee XJ is capable of getting quite good fuel economy.
Any suggestions???

Less skiny pedal, full tune up, proper tire inflation. Its a Jeep, dont hope for too much.

My 95 gets around 420-450 before filling, mostly highway driving and its getting up there in miles (340K). I don't know if you could expect that much better in the city. Best you can do is like Fraser suggested... good tune up, check your tires inflation and drive like grandma.

my 99 XJ gets a consistent 450km/tank. I don't drive it hard, but I don't baby it either. You're pushing a 4000lb brick, gas mileage and jeeps don't like each other.

My '94 with the 4.0L and 31's gets about 300km 100% city driving when I don't use the remote start and it has a 75L tank. :-\

i got from cochrane to waiprous, wheeled all day and then back to my place in the SW last time out...... on a 40L tank i was very impressed (and on fumes) i don't get much to a tank at all maybe 250k...
i guess that doesn't help lol
