about to throw the 37's on my jk. how long do you figure the dana 30 up front will last before it grenades?? haha :o

If its open until the second time you jazz on it in a pinch if its locked the first time.

Driving style will have a lot to do with how long it lasts. Lay off the loud pedal and it should prolong the life.

should last a long time if u dont drive it.

If it is completely stock, it is only probably only a matter of time. The HP D30s can handle 37s but they need chromo axles, trusses, etc.

any idea where i can pick up a good set of cromo axles for cheap?

i don' think the word cheap and chromo go together. that bein said, let me know what u find! i'm runnin 36" iroks on my D30. i haven't broken anything yet, but i've been less than hard on it. so far only snow wheeling and have only been locked a few times on some steep, snowy hill climbs

I know a lot of people have done this, but I thought you were not suppost to use chromoly axles in a semi floating axle? Semi floating meaning the weight of the vehicle is on the axle shaft and it is suppost to flex a bit, where a full floating axle has hubs and the vehicles weight is not on the axle shaft. I have read that the chromoly axles will not flex, they will bend? Has any one else heard of this happening?

I've given my JK open D30 some pretty good beating on 35's. Had em on there since October 08'. Weakest point on the 30's is the knuckle on the end. The C's like to bend. Truss that and you could be fairly well off unless you start jumping your rig or locking the front. You can always sleeve the front axle housing, Off Road Evolution makes a kit with machined sleeves as well as the C-gussets. Rock Krawler makes an axle truss, or you could fab one up. Then the only worry would be shafts / hubs and not the carrier itself.
With 37's I don't know if you'll clear the pinch seam in even the front, might have to look into that, the back will HAVE to be cut off or folded over (unless you have a stretch kit like Rock Krawler makes). Likely need at least a 3" lift as well. I've got 2-1/2" with 35's and they rub the inner fenders in the rear.

thanks for all the goo advice, ill have to do some mods to make it stronger. the jeep isnt getting abused, its more of a street rig that will be trailed every now and then, but not beaten into the ground. its runnin a 4" lift so i should fit them alright, and yeah the pinch fold will definetly need to be trimmed or atleast bent back to clear. do i need a welder to install those trusses?

I think Con-Ferr makes a bolt on axle truss. Had one on my Cj. Eats up some clearance though.

Someones been fibbing to you. They are not sposed to flex. In fact, thats a weakness that makes hard use 8.8 stock shafts bend all the time.
As for the front, the weight is supported by the unit bearing, and again, the shaft should not be flexing.
Lastly, while chromoly is harder then steel, it still flexes quite well, has a higher fatique tolerance, and returns to shape better then run of the mil 1026.

The Rock Krawler truss is a weld-on, I know the gussets are welded, and the sleeve kits are plug welded and can also be welded around the lip in the housing, but don't NEED to be welded there.
Simple MIG welds will do for all of that (small welds, with time to cool in-between to avoid warpage / grease burning). You could always pay a shop, or someone on the forum to do the welding for you - I hear beer works on some people.

not very long i think i just blew my 30 up and i have 31s, i fell in a hole and ripped the lower control arm mount off i was going very slow too.
for the first time!!
