Title: Nov 26/27maclean
Post by: TJ54 on November 06, 2005, 11:04:12 AM
Howz about a run to maclean on Saturday Nov 26 ? Or sunday
9am at the store. 9:30 to the trail. Daylight is scarce this time of year so lets make the most of it.
Maclean closes Dec 1 for the winter.
We shall let the poll decide which day, the poll will run untill the 23 then a decision will be made.

I'm not going to vote. I will be the tie breaker in case we need one. Right now I'm leaning towards Saturday. In case of problems that leaves a day for repairs or rescue so that I can work on Monday. But I will go with the majority.

open run, non jeeps invited, but must have tow points front and rear, tow straps, CB radio (not FRS) decent tires,

I shall wait and see who responds to pick the trail, If a bunch of newbies want to come out we will pick something easy, if it mostly built rigs then something challenging.

I hope that's enough notice

I'm up for it if your willing to take a newby.  I have an 02 TJ sport stock but with 31" mud terain tires.  I'll have to buy a CB but once I talk with the wife she should be up for it.  She'd come too.  I havn't done much off road for a few years but used to go out in military vehicles 10 yrs ago lol.  Let me know what you think.  If you don't get too many newbies I can opt out.

Thanks,
Gabe

Gabe. you are welcome to come along,  31" mud tires will be good. Alot of us have 31's and they work fine.

Ok sounds good.  I think I convinced the wife to buy a CB and a tow strap.  Just hope I can figure out how to install it in the jeep lol.  Only thing is that I don't have a hook on the back of the jeep but I do have a hitch.  Will that be enough for my back hook?  It is a 3500lb hitch.  If thats ok then you can count us in :)

Gabe, some hitches are fine for a tow point. Some are kinda wimpy, without seeing it I can't say. But I imagine you will be able to figure that out yourself

CB. The best place to pickup a CB is at the road king truck stop at barlow and 50th ave, If you walk in the front door and go straight ahead you will see the store. Dean is the guy. Mention CJA and take cash, You should get a good deal. Mounting the antenna is the tricky part, but dean should be able to give you some advice about that. If you need some help with it, just PM me, and we'll get it done.

Ian

ok sounds good.  I'm sure the hitch should be able to handel it.  It looks prety strong.  Its just they took my hook off when the put it on and I didn't notice until later.  lol.

I'll give the CB a try myself and see what I get.  I can see how the antena will be a bit of a challenge but I'll figure something out.  May have to go on the front somewhere.  So if I figure it out I'll see you out there :)

i want to go too i have a buddy that would like to come. i have an xj and he has a sami. he's on 33s and i'm on 32's. my tires really suck on snow and ice so heres hoping its not too bad i don't care what day as long the trail isn't too hard i don't want to camp in crap loads of snow for the night. sounds like a good chance to meet you guys. i'm fairly new to your site and i haven't met anyone yet. i know nuxjr a little but thats it.

If I'm not hunting that weekend I might be joining ya.  Would have to get back to ya about Sat vs Sun.  Normally I work Saturdays but if I end up with the weekend off & no hunt might be able to do the Sat :D

If the trail is suitable for my stock 2001 sahara then I am in. I could use a day off from the home reno project by then.  Ian what tails are you thinking of?

Blair.

Since there seems to be interest in both days, Maybe there should be a run each day.

Blair, it would be good if you could make it out.  Is this Blair the Bridge Builder?
We will pick a trail that everyone can enjoy. The weather between now and then could be a huge factor, If we get a major dump of that white stuff or a deep freeze it could really change things. That is why I thought I would wait and see before picking a trail.

I won't laugh too hard Robb, everytime I fix mine, I see 3 more things that need attention.  I hope I can make it as well.

It's starting to look like Saturday's the day.

The weathers looking good so far. I am thinking of Fisher west, It is a fairly easy trail, with little mud, some small to medium size rutting in spots and a couple of rocky climbs. As long as the weather stays dry, this should be a good trail for the beginner.
Again......... tow points front and rear, CB's and decent tires

A couple of people have asked me about sunday. I will probably be into going out again, if saturday goes well.

The forecast is for cooler temps and flurries now. That's good, the mud will be frozen.

I would like to get a few people together for a run.

Dean at Comtek in the road king truck stop. Cobra CB for $99 . mention the jeep club, take cash you will get a deal. Not a huge deal but you will save a few bucks.
The radio is easy to install. The antenna can be more of a challenge. But is not that hard.  Dean will have some sugesstions on the best place to mount the antenna and which will work best for you.

What kind of rig do you have, then we can make suggestions for radio and antenna locations.

Yes.

But I've never been to the diner he mentions.
When you drive in to bragg creek you will see a shell gas station. the mohawk is next to that, then there is a strip mall, I believe the diner is in there. Just look for the jeeps. Or a Landrover.
