Title: Looking for a backyard Mechanic to rebuild...
Post by: Axemanjay on May 02, 2009, 12:17:48 PM
Hey Guys..

I have a 92 YJ 2.5l that needs an engine rebuild.  I have the master rebuild kit, but the space and time is limited.

Does someone have a contact for a backyard mechanic that could do the job without breaking the bank or wanting my first born?

Thanks

Talk to Bnine or, ...can't remember his handle..... named Dave I think.  I'm sure some others can chime in here.

GEARHEAD  is a 2.5l aficionado(expert) who might do it for you.

He frequents this forum.

BRINE  is another guy who knows his stuff.

Bnine is more of a fabricator than an engine rebuilder.  Gearhead would build you an awesome 2.5... but he's not cheap and he doesn't cut corners.  He knows his stuff and does it up right.  LEMON-AID JAY at Chanda motors is a good guy too... you might drop him a line and see if he can help you out.

We've got a few other guys who are mechanics on the board just not sure if they do side work.   They'll probably chime in if they have the space/time/desire to take on a project like this.

First question....do you really want a rebuild, or do you just want a running engine?

I'm not trying to be an azz....but just making sure you want a rebuild, as engines should be cheap to come by if you are just looking for a replacement.  8)

I have a running engine, it is making alot of bearing noise (to what i can tell).  I have pretty much done all my own work, but, fall short on the engine rebuild side.

I have not yet found a replacement 2.5 around the city, or even a core to rebuild.
