Just a little article that caught my eye in today's Sun that I thought I'd share..

I saw that today..
"who knew they could go that fast" Never underestimate the box in the wind!
-
only way mine is hitten 200km/hr is on the back of a flat deck
-
sigh :-\ just another young male giving the rest of us a bad rep
-
Yep, someone playing with their life & thelife of others! ::)
I also heard that Race City was getting rid of their friday nights for street racers to get off the streets with their rides... way to go CGY!
-
clocked a Jeep Grand Cherokee going 200 km/h
obviously it was new GC with the SRT8
as for me, i am lucky to get to 110.
-
i can go a whopping 80km/h on the hiway before everything starts to shake

x2.
was just going to point that out. nothing anyone drives here would hit 200 km/h going down hill with a 100km/h gust behind them.......
cept my Grand ;)
-
The stock WJs with the 4.7 could easily go 200 km/h. I had one up to 170 one time and that was half throttle.
-
If I took all the stuff off mine and did a bit of tweaking I could get it there.
-
I am sure I could get my Tj past 200km....... I just don't want to have to pay for the reapirs after I drop it out of a plane.
-
I took a trip out to Dead man flats this weekend past and Had a hard time not loosing 30kms going up the hills on the way out, lol. But on they way back i was talking to my passenger and looked down and realized i was doing 160km's, I was impressed but slowed back down to 120.
So i know it can do 160 comfortably, but I'm not much of a speeder so it probably will never see that speed again
-

Agreed... It's rare for me to be anywhere by myself where I can hit those kinds of speeds safely, I will not jeopardize the life of others, it would be me & me only in the jeep & no one around me! I have hit 160 & there was more to push, but it's a jeep.. it's not built for high speeds, it's built for other fun stuff..
Anyone check the speed rating on their tires lately??? I know I haven't...
The only time I pushed high speeds (again by myself) was in my Supra.. 240+, who knows how fast I was actually going when the needle was buried..
-
When I was young and foolish and my XJ was still stock('89 4.0, 5spd), I topped it out at 180km/h.
I know my mom's 5.9L ZJ will go 200km/h.
-
My girlfriend tends to own fairly fast cars. Her last two were a supercharged mini-cooper and currently a VW GTI.
Even in vehicles designed for relatively high speeds, I don't think that I've exceeded 140 knowingly on a public highway. Even that was for short periods to pass.
In my Jeep? 130 maybe.
-
Ha my CJ tops out at 120 at 4000 or so rpm, anything past that is a deathwish :'(

1989?? so you would have been 37? j/k. ;)
-
My Rubi, on boggers, has seen 210 km/hr on hwy 16
-
I'd rather not admit to how fast I've had either jep but the tj goes faster than you'd think it would/should. ;D
-
i had my parents jeep GC with 4.7 to 210, they it stopped going , it was 2am and the highway was dead no one for miles, i'll never do that again i like the low speed drifts around town now.
-
Blasphemy has been 160KPH+ on 35" Pitbulls and no swaybars with no issues,...
-
I'm sure this one hits 200kms.

-
I got my 1948 CJ2A up to 112km/hr. ;)
Remember when Scotty is telling the Captain that if he pushes her any farther she'll rip herself apart?
-
last time out at waiprous, in the YJ (with no sway bars or track bars) i hit 155 on the speedo going down hill passing someone :D
now 155 is roughly 130 haha......... and boy was it smooth
The WJ? never actually pushed it cause i don't want it to 'stop going' aka blow it apart lol i've hit 150 in it................ maybe whats more impressive is 140 all the way to Edmonton
-

This got me to thinking. What is the terminal velocity of a jeep? I read this on wikipedia, it says a parachuter can hit 195 kph and could hit 320. Could a jeep hit 200? Who wants to donate their jeep for a test
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity
But this math is beyond me, maybe someone smarter than me could figure it out

When a Grand drives like a car, I don't think it counts against most sterotypical 2 door jeeps.
-
using this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity)
and yes... i'm bored at work lol
this is what i get ... if i did it right ... seems kinda fast
***************************************************************
Vt = terminal velocity,
m = mass of the falling object,
= 1978kg (TJ with I6 and hardtop)
g = acceleration due to gravity,
= 9.81m/s²
Cd = drag coefficient,
= .55
p = density of the fluid through which the object is falling, and
= 1.2 kg/m³ (at sea level)
A = projected area of the object.
= 2.963m² 1.750m (height) * 1.693m (width) = 2.963m²
Plug all those in and you end up with 141.19m/s
141.19m/s is equal to 508.28 k/h
So 508.28 k/h is the terminal velocity of a TJ falling nose down at sea level :o
-
Trevor ... here's a good use for your TJ ... lets try it
-
My Rubi, on boggers, has seen 210 km/hr on hwy 16
On a car hauler behind the Trailblazer SS. ;)
-
Haha the 401 with a Holley Street Avenger 4bbl dose me some justice, 145kph.
And that wasn't even to the carpet.... ???
Goooo~ J20!
-
113 km/h down a hill with the wind pushing me. stupid 36" tires with 3.07's!! haha
-
Mine doesn't go that fast; so, I was thinking of adding two extra wheels and make it look like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNFmb7nRnNo&feature=PlayList&p=785AFC1C62DDDBC1&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=20

See.... I knew I could get it over 200km...... Anybody looking for a fun way out of their current lease?

That is and awesome jeep!!!
I should be able to go fairly fast in a month or so, currently dropping in a TBI chevy 350/5.7L Into my YJ :D
-
Eric, by all means fork out $11k... and you could make it into a pancake, if you'd like.
-
Check out this guys Jeep... 168mph ;)
http://home.comcast.net/~lakeviewcruiser/site/
Gotta 305 pumping out 700hp
As for my jeep seemed like it was about to tare its self apart at 160km/h.
-
138kmh the nice man in blue told me, he also gave me a receipt.
