I just put my driveshaft in a vice to pound on the U joint. Took quite a beating to get er out, but now Ive noticed I dented in a bit where the DS rested on the vice. Do we figure ive just dented it a bit(which should still be ok) or have I bent the whole damn thing?

I bent my ears on an axleshaft trying to get the joint out... expensive lesson.  I now have a Princess Auto Ujoint tool.
I found the vice/socket hammer method was definitely pretty brutal.  I got the Princess Auto ujoint tool, only to later buy the ball joint tool.  Much easier.  I did however try to power out a seized ujoint only to bend the ear since I used an impact with the ujoint tool.
Only way to know for sure is to put it back on and go for a drive.

Run it, your likely just going to hit it and dent it again on some stumps or the two rocks we have in Alberta,
Or if its fromt a 4.0L TJ, I'll buy it at salvage pricing :)

Im a fan of the $10 c-clamp and big socket method.  Push them both out as far as you can get the caps, the finish it of with a hamer using a piece of WOOD under you drive shaft.
Its not as fast and easy as the official tool, but works just fine.
