I'm going to be taking a couple co-workers out for a ride in my jeep in McLean. Although I've been to McLean a couple times, I really don't know my way around. Anyone planning to go out this date? I'd like to hit some challenging areas. It would would really make my day to scare these guys!! ;D
I'm on 33's, ome lift, winch.
Dennis
UPDATE!
Meet at the general store at 9:30. Then head out around 10:00.
-
you can do every trail on 33's but ill keep you posted if im going that weekend if so ill join you
-
Alas, we're out doing radio coverage for the Banff-Jasper relay that weekend.
What kind of scary? Like that climb up the ledge from Fischer East entrance to Top of the World? I don't know what areas are scary out there, there's tons of trails I haven't been on.
I don't mean anything too scary, just some challenging climbs and such. I'm not a seasoned veteran or anything.

bring it over to my place .. i have a sawsall that will fit your exaust just right
-
wouldnt that just let a bunch of toxic gases into my jeep
-
I may go as well
-
I might be up for a trip out to MacLean on the 6th. Keep me posted on the info :)
-
Well i'm supposed to be in Calgary that weekend. I don't know how busy I'll be but if I can drag my driver out we'll try to join in! No guarantees.
-
Hi I maybe interested in going although daughters birthday. May be able to sneak away. Let me know time and place. Thanks Jeff ;D
-
Ah yes, a time & place.
How about meet at the general store at 9:30. Then head out around 10:00.
Just to remind everyone, I don't know McLean very well so I'm hoping some of the folks coming have some ideas.
I also would like to reccomend everyone have the basic requirements for a run. F & R tow points, CB, tow straps, etc.
-
Muffin, you ALWAYS say that.
-
i wanna go so bad, but i need a lift :'( or i would get stuck to much lol
-
yes you would.

i ran maclean like 8 times last year before getting my lift including top of the world and some other trails
as did my brother and he doesnt have a rubicon .. yours will be fine
-
I will probably be there :)

you have a winch. you wouldnt need to rely on some 1 eles to get you free
-
dude i started stock just like everyone else .. yes its nice to have the winch and the lift and lockers but .. i do recall your jeep says trail rated on the side as long as you have the hooks and a tow rope ready to go .most people dont mind giving you a tug ..
and best thing is to watch your lines dont jump in the biggest hole theres bi passes around 99% of the bad stuff
first time i went out was with 2 other stock jeeps and an xterra no winches just a few tow ropes and we all had a blast
-
I'm in,been itchin to take my new jeep out.I don't know Mclean at all so it will be nice to go with a group. ;D
-

Joker, I think you'd be fine. Last year my jeep was very stock, only "mod" I had was 31" tires. I just went around the obstacles that it was obvious I wouldn't make it through. That's what the bypasses are for.
Just like Rubi03jef says, as long as your somewhat prepared no one minds helping you out. Hell, its usually the highly modded jeeps that hold things up getting stuck!!
-
Also, learning to drive your stock jeep threw some trails, will teach you what your jeep can do, making you a much safer and better driver in the future.
I would come out with you guys, but i already have plans that weekend. But i've made it just about everywhere in mclean creek with my stock rubicon. And thats without me disconnecting the sway bar. (the E-disco button is to far from my finger :P) And any place I got stuck, there was ALWAYS someone to pull me out.
-
ya i only hesitate because my experiance is 4 trail runs, and i just dont like the feeling of assuming some one will pull you out lol. also when i went out i got stuck like 3 times in 30 min because of deep snow and i just feel stupid asking for a pull again... lol. But i guess i might have to come see what i can do.
-
Honestly man CJA is a great group of guys who never leave anyone behind dont worry about getting stuck its all part of the game ;)
-
Im probably in for this. Dont worry, no one leaves anyone behind on the trail. I broke my axle on the Falls run and everyone made sure I got out to the tow truck ok.
-
Don't compare summer dry trail to winter trail. The easiest summer trail, can become the hardest winter trail, and the hardest summer trail can become impossible in the winter.
I think you would be surprise what your jeep can get threw in the summer.
-
joker better be there
-

HEY JEFF WE ARE PLANNING ON GOING OUT ON THE 7TH WITH SOME NEWBIES WE ARE GOING TO DO FISHER EAST LET ME KNOW
i might .. all depends on how much packing i get done from now till then ..
but ill do my best
-
SORRY I MENT FISHER WEST
-
FIsher East = Glutton For Punishment Repairs, never mind with newbies and especially any stockers!
If ALL of the stockers are Rubicons, with winches, and good drivers...it'd be okay.
Otherwise, yes. Lots of punishment.
-
ive done fisher east 4 times now and its realy not that bad .. but yes punishment would be the word to discribe it .
but if i get alot done this weekend then ill be out both days next weekend 6th and 7th
-
well i cant go due to lack of money
-

-
id like to ride shot gun tho if any 1 has room
-
why not spend the extra $30 in gas to drive the trail? You already spent $x amount in gas to get there....
-
cant afford to break or the extra cash to drive all day. id be pushing it just to drive there

It's not that the trail is crazy...it's the amount of winching that you seem to end up doing. It's a lot of fun to do in the fall when all the mud is frozen...but unless you're on boggers you spend a lot of time getting stuck and un-stuck.

That the fault of the guys running boggers ;D
-
Well i had to read 4 pages, i guess theres still a run. Wheel hop came out for a run with me this weekend so i may tour down to wheel with him. I aint running no jeep and i do have a 12000 pound winch. So any one in for a sick day of wheeling lets get her done. I don't have a problem pulling out jeeps but i will give ya a hard time after i do it. ;) :o :-* ;D
-
ill do my best to be there .. can miss this trip
-
Well my coworkers both pussyed out! ::)
But I'm still goin, so see you all Saturday.
-
do we know a time were meeting at and anyone picing a trail or are we just heading out and see what type of jeeps we have then we will deside
-
Honestly man CJA is a great group of guys who never leave anyone behind dont worry about getting stuck its all part of the game ;)
HEY don't forget about us girls :P that drive stock out there as well....
-
Muffin, you ALWAYS say that.
Thats cause thats how it ALWAYS is... *sigh* I'm trying to move to Calgary then it will be more likely to happen haha.. but since I can't find any sponsor companies i'm hooped right now.. so if you can find a company to sponsor my Mechanic Apprenticeship i'll be down there in a hop, skip and a jump!!! ;) but for the sake of not wasting posts i'll stop saying it.
-

I put a time in the original post. Meet at 9:30, head out at 10:00.
Hopefully that works for everyone. As for what trail I've only been on a couple trails at McLean so whatever the group decides is fine with me.
-
I don't have a winch yet but I would love to go. Is it mandatory that I have one?
1981 cj7 on 32's
stock axles and motor
-
Well I'm hoping to have my wifes jeep (4dr sahara) finished in time for this.If not we'll be there in my yellow rubi clone jk ;D What is required for this?I don't have a winch on mine but I do have tow straps.
-
A winch isn't required. Just don't be getting stuck a zillion times in all the mud holes or something.
Tow points on the other hand are a must.

winches are not a must but tow hooks and tow straps of your own
make sure your tow points are strong and are to the frame not the sheet metal
and if you get stuck you will NOT be left behind
-
Here's some more suggested items someone PM'd me.
Fullsize spare tire
Front and rear tow points, either hooks or D rings
Tow strap ~20'x2" recommended
CB or FRS radio
Water, enough for the day
Food, enough for the day
Change of clothes
Gloves
Tools if you have them
Spill kit of you have it
-
Please don't forget to hit the trail without a good first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and most important......toilet paper! ;D
-
mythbusters proved the who winch cable theory .. it may hurt a bit but it will NOT kill you nor cut you in half
theres not enough mass to the cable to have the momentum to do such damage
but yes alwasy good to be prepared for the worse
-
Im thinking if the tip hit me in the head i might die
-
Dress warm, its gonna be raining/snowing tomorrow and mucky. Rubber boots FTW.
-
and i was hoping to take the top off for this trip .. oh well maybe the next one

ok, you stand in the way and test it real time not myth time
-
winch cable does scare me .
its the mounting points that are not friendly .. if they come off they can hurt a bit more
winch cable will still leave a mark but not more then that
-
I second Jeff's nomination to try it first... minus the towpoint.
-
So apparently no one shows up anymore? It was me, Jeff and Wheelhop, so 3 out of however many said they were going to be there. We did Top of the world and come out Fisher West
-
Sorry had some rig troubles been working on her all day. Had to redo front leafs and some other stuff. Just finishing. Going wheeling tomorrow out by clearwater area. Had to change winch put in a second battery frenkin pile. Almost done and ready to go. I have posted runs and 30 people have said there coming and 2 show up. Then the opposite has happened no one has posted and 10 rigs have showed.
-
well everyone missed out on the drama today
tipped my Rubi on its side blew both driver sided tires off the bead lost the driver side spring and ripped the drive side shock off .. oh and it took 2 hours to winch me down a hill ..
sooooooooooo much fun ..
got to give some shout outs to the 2 men that didnt leave me behind
-
any picks? sorry to hear about your ride, hope its not too bad
-
its back running i got it out of the bush last night so its all good
just got to remove 2 tires off the rims and clean all the mud out of them
-
