Title: What To Do?
Post by: bobtheknob on May 24, 2009, 11:00:31 PM
Hey so i Just got my 99 Tj two days ago now and my one buddy took me out to do some starter off roading and i like it ALOT so i was wondering things i can do to upgrade and make my future adventures more fun (do bigger hills etc.) and also safer. the only reason i ask this is because it is almost completly stock.

It really depends on what you want ot do with it.  The very first things you should do are recovery points.  Two tow hooks on the front bumper and either a hook or hitch in the rear along with a good strap with looped ends.  Second would be a CB radio for trail runs.  On a TJ bioth these mods should run under $150  Wheel it a few times to make sure you want to keep going because it will become a money pit.

For around here a decent setup would be 3" or 3.5" lift, 33" M/T's, front bumper(ARB etc...), 8-9.5k winch, skid plates and sliders.

Your best bet is the tow points and communication.  Get out and grow from there.  Some skids, a winch, 2-3" of lift, and some aggressive tires are always good starting points.  Lots of pointers too be had on here and while out wheeling.  Watch out, it gets addictive and expensive. ;)
