The last couple days I have been painting my fender flares back to black. I used krylon fusion satin black, which I have seen to be highly recommended on jeepforum...Just though I would post my results in case anyone else is looking for a cure for faded flares.
I used two cans and basically sprayed very thin layers until I though they were dark enough...Worked very good, I got very even coverage and so far they held up to a bit of flex while cleaning them up and re-installing. Highly recommend so far!

fancy .. but painting mine wont cover up the holes and ripps in the plastic .. i guess ill have to go to metal

Nice!!! In the process of doing the same but the rockerguard sprayed by the last owner has covered up a lot of the bolts and washers.
Good times trying to scrape that garbage off! :o

Awesome job. Detail shops use bumper dressing to bring back that original black finish but tire dressing g works well too...
Speaking of flares...any recommendations?

I put Xenon on my YJ Laredo the 6 !/2" extended flares mold into the factory running boards keeps it looking stock

Just wondering if you did anything special for a prep before painting? I bought a couple cans of the Krylon Fusion Paint at WM for $5 and am looking at using Simple Green Surface Prep as i've heard it works well to. I actually tried a light scrub with an S.O.S. on a test spot and found it worked quite well but would have to be careful along the body. Any thoughts??

Take the time and remove them from the Jeep for prep and paint... The edge against the body is going to hold more crap to make the paint flake off. It's a bit of a pain but so worth the end result. Just look at the photos posted.. awe some..!!! Also gives you a chance to clean the body at the point where the flares mount and fix any minor rust spots.... Do it once and do it right...

Thanks for the input. Good point. I've seen some info Re: the plastic plugs/inserts that always seem to break off. Any ideas where to pick up new ones??

When you have the plugs off take one to Canadian Tire, sometimes you might get lucky and find some in the "Help" bin area. Or best yet there is a place just off of McKnight before the airport, I think it's called "Deans's Autobody Supply" They have everything you need, just bring in the old plug.... ;)

So, I ended up taking the flares off and panting them with the Krylon Fusion paint and a pre clean with simple green and it worked great!! The job took a good days work but well worth the while. The flares were a little tedious to take off but deff. recomended. I had picked up a set of ratheting wrenches on sale at CT which made it alot quicker. Even managed to salvage the cristmas tree type holders and re-use them. Thanks for the advice.

I'm glad that the flares turned-out so well after painting, but TJ flares that have been dulled from the elements can be touched up with a heatgun on a low to medium stting to get the lustre back. It turned out well for the flares I've done . There are some tips on Youtube if you choose to go this route.
