Hey everyone, I have a loud grinding sound coming from what i am assuming is my transfer case when I am in 4x4 and step on the gas hard.
When I'm just cruising there is no sound but if i give her the gas when it revs up there is a lound grinding sound almost like two gears slipping off each other. has anyone had this before too? I was thinking maybe it the Chain in the t-case slipping. What do you all think?
Any help will be MUCH appreciated with that 101 coming up soon
Thanx
I have a 89 XJ 4.L auto i think the t-case is a 241?? sound right?

In both Hi and Lo ??

I haven't tried it in 4 low yet.

Its most likely the 242 Tcase. Is the linkage adjusted correctly? It could be slipping a little bit if its not fully engaging.

Could be u-joints as well... have to hear the grinding noise.
grab ahold of the drive shafts, and give them a shake.

The U-joints seem to be nice and tight
The first time it happend i was on a turn, so i thought it was binding, so i checked the u-joints, but it happens everywhere. so now i'm worried

Looks like you nailed it. I checked everything everyone said here except the t-case chain, and i treid to replicat the problem and it wouldn't do it again, I noticed the linkage is out a bit, so i must not have had it all the way in 4x4.
Thanx everyone for the help
Hopefully there is no problem at all :)
