Hey guys,
Just wondering, if I'm building a utility trailer or flat bed trailer. How do I go about getting it registered as there is no Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)?
I know you can get a cheap trailer from Canadian Tire or Costco, but what if I wanted to build one. How would I get it registered?
Anyone know?
Thanks,

I was wondering this a while ago when i acquired a homemade, Im not 100% but what I heard was you can get a trailer VIN stamped, it apparently costs a couple hundred $.
Try calling a registry, Im sure they will have the answer.

When I had to register my no vin tent trailer it is:
$53 for homebuilt trailer less than 1400 kg
$418.70 for all trailers otherwise

Check this site,
http://www.ibc.ca/en/Insurance_Crime/Prevention_Investigation/Alberta_ReVINing.asp (http://www.ibc.ca/en/Insurance_Crime/Prevention_Investigation/Alberta_ReVINing.asp)
Also has to meet Government regs for lights, brakes etc.

last time i just punched some numbers in and gave them that.

100% you need a VIN... I went through that a few years ago. they come to your house (or wherever your trailer is) and put it on your homebuilt trailer...

Not true actually. Only has to be built from NON-stolen parts. There is no inspection required for non-comercial trailers.
quoted from your link:
Please note: The vehicle examination conducted by IBC is not an inspection of the safety and/or mechanical integrity of the vehicle. A Salvage Vehicle Inspection or an Out-of-Province Vehicle Inspection, at the applicant's expense, may be required before the vehicle can be registered in Alberta. Please contact an Alberta motor vehicle registry agent for information about registering your vehicle/trailer.
