Title: Sway bar End Link
Post by: YoungFluff03TJ on June 23, 2009, 11:30:47 AM
Ok so I have a '03 TJ Sport and the sway bar links uhm...broke...so i took the oldies off and put the news in, but then the ball and bolt part that goes through the actual sway bar in jammed in there so tight they wont budge even when i use a 4 foot pry bar and vicegrips. any ideas as to how to remove them? theyre basically like a bolt through a hole but with a ball on one end.

So here is my method for these.
Use a hacksaw or sawzall to cut of the ball as close to the swabar as possable.
Tape an old large socket anysize over the spot where the ball use to be.
Take my large bench vice off the vice set it on a jackstand and place it so the top of the bolt is on one side and the socket is on the other.
Tighten the vice until it presses the bolt out of the sway bar and into the socket.
usually takes me 5mins...... longer if I use a hacksaw.

Buy disconnects or links without the ball and sockets as they break way too easily.

Just rent a pickle fork for separating ball joints.  Hit it with an over sized hammer a few times and it will come out nice and easy. You won't even have to destroy  anything in the process!

Just invert the bar and hit the end of the swaybar with a hammer. The link is tapered. The shock of the hammering will vibrate it loose. Same as a tie rod.
