Any Welders out there? Im looking at putting some ProComp recovery hooks on the front of my YJ until my Warn front bumper comes in next month.
-
There is no need to weld the hooks on. There are 2 bolt holes in the frame but you have to remove the plastic cover to get at the second one
-
Yeah. This is a "new to me" jeep, the tapped bolt holes in the front of the frame arnt going to work, the rear one is essentially just a hole into the frame itself. The fella that had this JEEP before me had some modifications to the front frame area.

Ill make the Warn Bumper work.... ;D
-
drill out the hole mounts on the bumper, drill out the stripped threads in the frame. re tap, use larger bolts. welding that puppy on there would make you stupider than the guy that fawked up your mounting points in the first place ;)
-
Yeah,m i would spend the time with the drill and the tap set on the bumper to ensure its mounted properly, In regards to the tow hooks, i was just going to mount them for the time being, then cut and grind them off when needed. But i agree, if you're going to spend the dough on a good front it needs to be installed correctly.

helicoil the holes

helicoil the holes
i don't think thast necessary...... you can use a larger bolt and drill out the hole. the helicoils are more suited for things like brake calipers/knuckles aren't they?
-
depends on if you need the stock size or not
-
get a grade 8 or better "fine" tread bolt with a nut the size of the hole and use in the drilled out hole
