Title: Anything planned for August long weekend?
Post by: muffintop on July 25, 2009, 12:10:59 PM
Me and a buddy... also has a Jeep... are looking to get out and do some wheelin August long weekend. Kinda looking for a day trip or two... I think?

Both Jeeps are geared up for offroad use, gettin stuck and gettin out of the mud. We are both responsible humans and would be bringing the wives (how is that for a selling feature  :D)

We are starting to run out of trails (I'm new to the area) and wouldn't mind tackling some new stuff with people who have been there before. Looking for mud and technical type stuff. Trying to stay away from 6 straight hours of flat rocky trails :(

My diffs should be done by next weekend... but I don't get my parts till tomorrow... so I don't know yet if anything got lost in transit or they shipped the wrong stuff.

Anyone looking to put together a run?

what are the requirements for this run? and if this run goes through where would it go? can i suggest "top of the world" as i have not been there and would like to learn mclean creek better.

havent been out since the 101 course (cracked front brake rotor) and am itching to go again.

Sounds like there may be a few takers... cool :)

I would love to lead... but I have pretty much only been out to North and South Ghost in Waiprous. South was cool... has some pretty deep water and mud sections (yeahhhh) and would go there again.  North was flat and rocky (boooo) and would prefer not. Having said that... I have not explored every square inch of the place either.

All my diff parts  got delivered today except my front Elocker... its apparently on a plane heading my way and should be here Thursday. So... assuming all the parts shows up and go together... I am in for something.

Do we have any leaders amongst us?

So is this run going to Mac Creek or Waiporous?
Title: Re: Anything planned for August long weekend?
Post by: muffintop on July 29, 2009, 10:52:04 AM
It could be either... if me and/or my buddy lead the charge... it will probably be South Ghost in Waiprous.

Anyone care to lead a run into Maclean? I have never been and would like to see what all the fuss is about :)

As a default... I booked me and the wife a camp site at North Ghost for Saturday night. Not sure which day we will wheel (sat or sun)... maybe both. Either way I'm leaving things open.

If someone wants to lead a "Mclean Creek adventure"... I'm in for that too and can change plans accordingly.

I'm starting my diffs tomorrow... wish me luck ???

I'll lead on sunday if you guys are looking for a trailer leader. Mclean that is...i know that area fairly well. If you guys want some excitment we could do the full fisher east backwards?

If there is anyone who hasn't been out to mclean before, and need directions i can meet you at the petro canada gas station on HWy 1 as you head out towards canmore. Im coming from airdrie, so i have to drive right past it. I dont mind stopping. Let me know what you guys think!

Sure, if you like being at the end of a winchline... but better ask your buddy who has the winch, if he wants to pull you through it all day.

I didn't want to scare everyone off, Jenn  ;)  I'm sure we can figure out "something".

Last time we came down the hill from Fisher West it looked like it might be "fun" to try going back up...  ;D

Would ya be in for that?

Just curious

thats an interesting way to put it.......................... its more like a 20km bog........... nothing short of 33s and lockers belong out there. unless you like to bag the hell out of your rig just to get through......

Sure, if you like being at the end of a winchline... but better ask your buddy who has the winch, if he wants to pull you through it all day.

trevor likes to run winch line, don't ya trev?  lol

have fun wheelin this weekend y'all. i'm building a deck

Oh come on now Trev.

I've done Fisher East in a stock JK (Rubicon). It is reasonable to do if:

#1. Anything that's on small tires (under 33") has lockers front and rear. M/T's at a minimum - no A/T's.

#2. Most rigs have a winch. Also make sure that there are enough snatch blocks and tree savers to go around.

#3. You know going in that you're going to pick up a lot of mud and some serious pinstriping.

#4. You expect a LONG day. Get an early start, and understand that it may be a late night. Last time I did Fisher East during the summer, people were still limping their Jeeps home at 2AM the following morning.

#5.  All of the drivers have a combination of good skills and good judgement. Poor skills = lots of extra time winching. Poor judgement = lots of extra time winching and maybe lotsa time wrenching.

#6. It's a small group. 3-5 Jeeps.

On the other hand, fisher East is a GREAT run if you tackle it between when it freezes up and when McLean closes.

Looks like my front Elocker got shipped ground instead of air and they didn't ship my carrier bearings at all... so I'm behind schedule and missing some parts >:(

I could just finish the super 35 & put the matching 4.56 gears on the factory D30 carrier w/ stock axles for now... that should get me on the trails for Sunday AM.

Anyway... enough of my Jeeps life story... I'll check back to see who's in for a Sunday or Monday run.

Later.

I can't make Saturday but would like to go out Sunday. I'm a newbie so I don't know the trails very well - tried to navigate them last Friday and ... well... a bit dicey!

If anyone is going to Mclean or Waiprous on Sunday, let me know.  As long as I don't have to lead!

I'm out.

As much as it kills me to wait... it makes no sense to put new gears on a stock carrier and then pull them out a week later and put them on a locker. Right now I have 4.56's in the rear and stock gears in the front... not a great combo for wheelin  :-[

Sad but true  :'(

It doesn't look like there is a very positive response. I guess the Saturday run was the big one.  Lets try again Holiday Monday... anyone going out?
