Title: XJ lift and rebuilt 4L engine
Post by: Sparky on August 19, 2009, 12:28:32 AM
I have two XJ Cherokees. One is a 91 I bought new Dec 15/90. I still love it but major knocking on the 4.0L in-line 6's bottom end indicates a rebuilt engine is required after a good hard 280,000+ km.  I would also like to get a lift kit installed on it too. Any suggestions as to both the best and the cheapest, as well as, the 'best value' for engine/lift product solutions, best shop in Calgary to have it done, and any shop/product provider in Calgary that can do it all?
Or, Are there any private guys around Calgary that do this kind of thing on the side? I'm not in a huge hurry if I can get a better deal by letting someone take their time and work on my Jeep when they get a chance in spare time.
Thanks a lot.
As I said, I also have a 93 Cherokee I've used as a daily work and winter family vehicle for the past few years.
I would really love a newer lifted JK Rubicon Unlimited. Someday.
I'm new to to this group.
Thanks again.

A used engine is your best bet. The vehicle has high kms. REubilding your engine or buying a rebuilt one would be $2000-$3000 and a waste of your money that could be spent on a lift kit.

I bought a whole XJ for $500 with a wrecked body that had 90,000kms on a rebuilt motor.

While its out put new seals(oil pan, rear main, valve cover, oil fiter adapter, etc) and maybe a new water pump and tuneup and you won't notice the difference between a rebuilt motor and your freshened up used one.

If you're looking for a lift, this might work. You'd just half to make bast@rd pack springs for the back

Look thru the online classifieds, Kijji, Craig's list, usedcalgary.com, barfind.com(bargain finder), etc. I found my by fluke in the local town paper and it turned out it was only 2 blocks away.

If that fails try Jeepstuff.

I have a friend that does this for a living and is just opening a new shop. He has 2 used 4.0 engines and has been a mechanic for 30 years. If your interested PM me for a number. Way cheaper than rebuilding your own or taking it to a shop in town.
