Title: thinking of a "new" dirt bike - cr500?
Post by: big black dodge on September 13, 2009, 09:07:05 PM
I sold my 97 k 250, and am looking to get back into dirt biking.  I was wondering if anyone has experience with say a 96 cr500r.  how are they to ride (how hard is the hit)?  also, how reliable are they (from my research, they are a lot more reliable than my old kx 250, and I never had a problem with that). I will be riding with a KTM 300 2 stroke, 450 4 stroke.  And I like to be the fastest :).  My old dirt bike magazine listed the dry weight of the 500 @ 233 lbs, which I find very resonable (no lights).  thanks

Hang on to it is all I can say:):)

It will guzzle the feul, but you definately wont have any worries about being the fastest.

Insane power. A top pro ran one in our final cross country race of the year.
i guess if you stick to open cutlines, it will be fun. 8)

I appreciate the feedback.  I know I will respect the power something like that will make.  what would you prefer, the cr500 or kx500?

Not to stir the pot or anything, but how come one guy gets jumped about a question putting 44's on a TJ and another guy posts a bike thread on a 4x4 site and is butt slapped going through the same gauntlet? :)

Yeah, you are stirring, lol.

As i have answered in both threads, i will answer here again to your stir.

Re read the other thread and see exactly what he stated in his NON needs for a rig. Whats left?
Mud or boring trail. If he had of been more descriptive in his NEEDS as opposed to what he does not need, than maybe that thread would have went a different direction. :)

In this thread or any thread on dirtbikes, i will always contribute.

You're stirring , I'm just brewing.  8)

Honestly: I read that entire other thread from the beginning and as it progressed. I read it again today. In defense of that person, there is no mention at all of bogging. His second sentence, I think, may very well refer to just simply trails in general. I thought it was somewhat brutal the way it was suggested that he was a bogger and not welcome without even questioning his motives to build a rig of that sort. Its not usually like the CJA forum board to treat a users question with that approach. I certainly hope that doesn't become the norm around here.

When I first read this thread however, my first reaction was to suggest posting that bike question on the Rocky Mountain Dirt Riders thread for a bikers response.

acknowledged.
i do agree that the way the thread turned was a little overkill.
i was just solely defending my own replies which i did not consider brutal. i even gave mad props to Dr.Dave and his leafsprung 44 boggered jeep that went anywhere...well!
i think it was just that he did not care about rocks or hills, so what else is there? mudboggging (which i used to be ok with and defended passionately).
Cranked seemed to enjoy it overall. i don't think he is butthurt.
Billy ventured into the technical side of things as it was posted in Tech.
The whole thing was not the normal CJA direction of threads.
