Title: Which SYE Kit?
Post by: Impact on October 01, 2009, 04:24:55 PM
Hey Guys,

Looking at picking up a SYE Kit for my 05 TJ and just wondering if there are any suggestions on which brand/model to go with and where to buy from.
I'm looking at Teraflex Extreme Short Shaft Kit... but can't seem to find anybody in Canada that sells them. Also, I'm wondering if there is any negative side effects of running the ESS compared to a normal SYE.

well for starters, the shorter it is, the longer your drive shaft is.  longer shaft can probably help with pinion angle and ujoints.

As far as the Teraflex Super Short SYE, I am using this part.   Bought it from National 4wd.  Got it last year for about $400.  Working good so far.

I am running the JB SS SYE kit and it is a nice kit.  I got it from Hoy Boyz in lethbridge and it cost about $350 about 2-3 years ago.  If you are going to the trouble of a SYE kit, spend the extra money and get the SS.  They are about 3" shorter than the standard SYE kit.

I have a buddy with a Dana 300 kicking around his shop... Would it be more worth it to install that instead and get the flip kit, twin stick etc?

No, cause flip kits always leak, and the shifters are so convoluted they seldomly worked right and are prone to binding.

On the other hand, were you to purchase a Stak 300 case that will allow you to reverse the drop of the 300 without flipping, then yes, definately a worthy swap.

In the end, the stak will cost you the same, if not less then the flip kit, but will work significantly better.

good luck

Wow I like!
Definitely worth it if I'm gona do the swap and pretty much the exact same price as a flip kit... can't believe they want so much for a flip kit!

Yeah, flip kits are old tech, and pretty much obsolete now that the universal case from Stak is available.
