I bought a set of these with a buddy of mine and yet to have any complaints, I do like that they coem with a rechargable pack, and you can run regular batteries in them. We are looking into car chargers for them.

I don't have much experience with GMRS, But I would recomend going with a name brand you recognize, Motorola, Cobra, Midland. The radios are all around the same price, and should be of equal quality. Re-Chargable batteries would be good, I am forever buying AA's for my FRS radios.

I just saw a flyer from Canuck Tire... 4 GMRS radio's, 2 charge stations (2 radio's per charge station), rechargable battery packs.. think it was $59 or $69... I don't remember the range, but I'd check em out you're looking still.

Hey Ian, you should pick up one of those NiMh rechargers. Duracell or energizer. They work great. If fact if put anything else into my diggy camera it sometimes won't even turn one.

As for radios, make sure you also get the FRS channels as well.

Hey Shawn
I've have some nimh batteries and chargers, They can be fairly reasonable if you look around.

But I think I'm gonna give up on the FRS/GMRS radios and get a 2M/40cm dual band rig for my jeep, I should be able to get the FRS freq's into that kind of radio if needed. It would help give me a little more peace of mind when out on the trail, I know there are several repeaters that can be used from both Waiparous and Maclean  and there is a great repeater that can be used in the RMH area as well. That way I should be able to call for help if there is some kind of emergency on the trail. Just saving up my pennies :D

Thanks guys, I got a set today like the ones Jeepinmud suggested. They are like one model lower and seem to have all the same features. Will test them out tommorow.

Jeepinmud, did you find anything out with the car chargers? Also, how long do the batteries typically last in these?

I have only used them on day runs and they seem to last a full day plus, I haven't used them any longer than that, I haven't found any car chargers yet, but, I hope to find a set b4 the May long weekend.

Princess Auto sells a "AA" home/car charger that will charge your rechargable "AA"'s.  When its on sale, its like $10.  I usually carry 12 or so "AA"'s so I can power my 2 ways, digital camera, and GPS.

HTH,
