Title: Which oil in a 1993 XJ AX-15 transmission?
Post by: WagoneerXJ on December 13, 2009, 02:27:22 PM
Want to change the oil in the XJ's tranny, what do I put in there? some people say ATF, some say gear oil....I obviously don't want to use the wrong one, and haven't found an answer yet. What say you?

The manual says 75w-90 GL5 and I have always used GL5.  In the newer XJ-15s it does say use a GL4

In my '95 XJ-15 and am running currently Redline MT-90 I believe which is the low sulfer gear oil, but I will be switching back to Redline 75w-90 GL5 because it ran better.  I would highly recommend running a good sythetic 75w-90 gear oil.  It made mine run smoother and quieter

well if the manual says 75W90 gear oil, that's what it will get. Probly Royal Purple :)
