Title: Stingers in calgary?
Post by: bobtheknob on December 22, 2009, 12:59:00 AM
hey i was wondering if anybody knows of any dealers in Calgary that sells shrockworks bumpers
I'm looking for this type http://www.shrockworks.com/Rock-Hammer-PO-Jeep-Winch-Bumper-TJ-YJ-Unlimited-Steel-pr-16137.html (http://www.shrockworks.com/Rock-Hammer-PO-Jeep-Winch-Bumper-TJ-YJ-Unlimited-Steel-pr-16137.html)
but don't really want to order over the net and from the states because last time i did that with my roof rack it became to expensive.
thanks

I don't think that anyone local carries them. I looked into Shrockworks, and yes...it does become expensive.

The other thing to understand with Shrockworks is that they have some serious lead times. You will pay in full, up front...and once you've done that, you should expect to wait between three and eight months...even if they initially tell you four weeks. They don't update you, they don't e-mail you...they just sit on your money and tell you "maybe it'll ship next month".

Yes...I had an unpleasant experience with them.

If that's the bumper you want, I'd just bring a picture of it to Lemon-Aid Jay. He built my bumper to my specs, and even after paying to have it bedlined, it cost me $400 less than a similar bumper from Shrowckworks would have cost me...and the Shrockworks bumper would have been powdercoated instead of bedlined.

I also attempted to buy a bumper from them. After 2 months of waiting for shipping details I phoned them and the pieces hadn't even been cut on the plasma table yet.  Got my money back and ordered a different company.  Nice gear, too much hassle.

I would give Bear a call in Edmonton Bear Trax 780.651.1621 and see if he can get them. Also this way if they are going to be a pain you don't have to deal with it he dose.

Another option is go and see Lemon aid Jay and see what it would cost to have him build it for you. this way you can also tweak it a bite for your use.

What a fancy looking bumper. Too bad there is that much trouble to get them.

Speaking from personal experience, if you bring those pics to Jay, he'll have no problems building exactly what you want. I brought him pictures before he built my bumper, and I got exactly what I wanted ;D

Pookapotmus (Dana) is designing a bumper for me.  He has taken the elements I like from a bunch of different bumpers and making something unique for me!  Talk to him if you want something different.   :)
It's all being done in a 3D designer.  You'll have have a shopping list for metal stock and all the cutouts.  Anybody can weld it for you then.

We will start a thread on the build once the design is a bit farther along.

Who is Lemon Aid Jay?
Jason H. is one of the original founders of  the Calgary Jeep Association. He was a Big Four Mechanic before he opened up Chanda Precision 4x4. He is also  an avid 4x4 enthusiast who competes in multiple events across Canada. He fabricates a lot of things from brackets to turn-key 4x4's.  Nice enough guy. He just has to get with the program, and get a freakin Jeep already. ;)

The whole lemon-aid thingy? Not quite sure. Has something to do with a weird citrus fetish...
