Title: Which OBD2 reader to buy?
Post by: Tagg on January 04, 2010, 05:30:27 PM
I'm thinking to purchase an OBD2 reader.  Went by Auto Value tonight and they have two obd2 readers.  Models EQUUS1003 and EQUUS1303 .  Does anyone have one of these?
Any recommendations? Experience? Do they all clear codes as well as read them?  Would others be better?  What should I be looking for in buying one? All opinions welcome.  Thanks in advance.

They were just on sale at Cdn Tire - not sure if it's still on or just over.

Look at programmers as well. For little extra money you can read and clear codes plus change stuff like gear ratios, tire size, shift points, and get some extra ponies out of your rig.  I sold my programer with my last truck, but will probably go get another one as soon as my Sub throws a code.

BullyDog makes a gas triple dog that covers ford, dodge and GM gas motors.

you could also try scantool or similar.  Reads codes, does speedo corrections, has readouts for instant/average mileage, temp, rpm, etc.  I have the cheapie knock off brand from princess auto that I got on sale for 99$.

It reads all and works on all obd-ii vehicles..

Does the one from PA clear codes as well as reading them?
