Title: CJA Wilderness First Aid course
Post by: Waytec on January 07, 2010, 08:50:02 PM
The Calgary Jeep Association will be hosting a Wilderness First Aid course February 19th (4 hours in the evening), 20th (all day in class), 21st (field day probably in Ghost FLUZ aria)

The course will be instructed by Goodwin First Aid. Eric Goodwin has geared the course to be in line with  motorized groups and has tout other OHV groups in the past.

The cost will be $230 per person. This will give you your CPR level C, Standard First Aid (Provides you with a 3-year valid certification recognized in the workplace)and the Wilderness and Remote First Aid as well as AED certification.

The in class portions Friday night 6pm to 10pm and Saturday 9am to 6pm will be held at the Canadian Austrian Club. The location has a restraint for lunch and dinner and a Tims is just up the road.

We have limited space for only 24 individuals so it will be a first come first serve bases. Your place will only be confirmed once you have paid your fee.  We will only be accepting cash and checks made out to the Calgary Jeep Association.

Please PM me with your name, email, a contact number if you wish to participate in order to reserve you seat, and arrange the particulars.

So as of right now there are only 8 of us. So it may be moving to Saturday and Sunday still 20 hours but as a smaller group it moves better.
I will be taking fees at the meet tomorrow night if you are there. after that, You will have to make arrangements. We must have the funds at least one week before the course.

Big thanks to Waytec for setting this up.  I'm sure everyone would agree it was an excellent course, with an excellent instructor, and something none of you should have missed out on.

Thank you for organizing this, Aaron. It was an excellent course and we all learned a lot.

I know that it's caused me to adjust my approach to "what if" a little bit, and I think that it's made me a lot more prepared to deal with those situations.

We had a great weekend. I would recommend this course over a standard course any day. Once you learn with the mindset that help is 8 hours to 2 days way waiting 1/2 hour in the city is nothing.

Thank you Eric and Aaron for a very informative week end.  What if 2 hours in to a trail and we come across a quad hanging up in a tree.  Ambulance evacuation could be up to 2 days away if neither are accessible. What do you do?

Why are there so many pics of people pointing and laughing at other people that have grisly wounds? I know that we were laughing at Herb because he drives a Yota, but that doesn't explain the rest...
