Title: Ball Joints
Post by: 03Jeeper on January 12, 2010, 11:26:45 PM
I am replacing all 4 ball joints on my D30.
So I phoned AutoValue and got quoted for two different brands.
Moog and Generic.
For Moog joints they ran up to $100, and generic was about $30.
My question is, is it worth getting the Moog joints?

Thanks.

Call kingsway auto.

Auto value is a rip off unless you know someone.

the generic ones carry the same one year warranty, and any where I have phoned the brand name vs house brand one are around the same prices you quoted.

If you go with the auto value generic brand ask if you can get a plug or a flush grease nipple with the lower ball joint. The ones that come with it will hit your joint and break.

Dealing with BtoB they told me that the Moog ones have a life time warranty to the original owner. I did a couple of sets on 1 ton Super Duty`s and always had the owner pick up the joints so they had the paperwork.

i believe the Pookapotamus just swapped out a set of moogs on his stockish XJ.  they were not in good shape.  in there a year, and installed at a reputable shop (national) they were warrantied, but still........ i know lotta people say they're better, anyone know why?
(just curious now)

Moog or TRW   ,  I wouldn't use anything else.

Are they worth it ?   ,    yup  ,  they last waaaayyyy longer than the cheapo parts.

Same thing with unit bearings  , SKF only

I used to be a fleet mechanic /  manager  , the trucks we owned and serviced were driven hard in adverse conditions , some of them chained up for months at a time . Moogs ball joints only on those trucks , nothing else would last.

If you call Kingsway.. make sure if you get Moogs it says "problem Solver" on the joint... if it doesn't say that.. they are not Moogs.

I ran into that issue with them before. I got 4 joints from the 1 was different then the other. One said "Problem Solver" ther other didn't...  :-[

Auto Value generic ball joints are crap... they will last you 2 months if you wheel your Jeep

pay the $$ and get quality parts... you will win at the end.
