Title: Waytec's 90 MJ
Post by: Waytec on January 17, 2010, 09:09:39 PM
So I am 99% sure that I am going to be keeping the MJ and restoring it as my Daly driver and Pretty Jeep.  The teetering factor is taking to a body guy and get a assent of the body and see what is involved in fixing the issues.

I am researching and pricing parts and trying to find a location to do the work here in Red Deer it will be apart for 1 to 2 months.

The hit list as of right now for the spring is going to be:
o   Rebuild the engine possible small stroker. Need to do more reading on this.
o   switch the closed cooling system for an open. I am thinking I am going to swap a XJ open rad in when I have the engine out.
o   new clutch and have the 5 speed looked at.
o   3inch lift to fit my 31s under it.
o   swapping the C8.25 I have in.
o   Re gear to 4:10s
o   get ride or the vacuum disconnects on the D30
o   Start the body work needed.

I am looking for some input from the guys that have had MJs and know about them. for input and other up grads I should do as well.

I'd suggest having Immortal look at the A/C while you're doing this.  Why not, especially if it going to be a DD?

What are you planning to run for tire brand?

Decals?  Contact autographixdesign on ebay, and ask him if he can do a set of Eliminator decals for you...can't be much more difficult than the "SPORTRUCK" decals....he in Charlottetown too, so no cross border fees.

upgrade to Mustang injectors too while you are at it.

Ditch the Peugot BA 10/5 tranny and swap in either an AX15(find a later one with the external slave) or an AW4 automatic. I swapped in an AW4 into my '89 XJ and it was a lot of work, almost a complete change over of the under hood wiring harness. But I think it was worth it, I much preferred it to the stock 5spd and it was much more reliable. I did when I was swapping the engine anyway so the wiring swap over was easier with the engine/tranny out.

BTW, Commanche's with a bobbed box look WAY cool!   ;)
