I don't know if this is where I should post this so feel free to move it if this is not where it belongs...
I'm looking at a jeep to buy and the guy says that the Synchromesh is shot but it can still be shifted easily if you know the premium RPMs to shift at. Now I pride myself on the fact that I know just a little bit more than basic maintenance on vehicles but I've never run into any issues with transmissions before so I am simply wondering what exactly a synchromesh is and whether or not it requires the entire tranny to be replaced.
Thank you!

just buy it. is that the turquoise one? my 3rd gear synchro is going too. i just shift at lower rpms.
go take it for a test drive, its probably not that bad.
eventually yes, the tranny will need to be torn down replace the cynchros. but its not that hard to live with........

You can find the best rpm's to shift at, or double clutch.

If you can try driving it fully warmed up and see how bad it is...the syncros are totally shot in my TJ and it's pretty hard to shift for the first few minutes on a cold day but once you get used to it it is no biggie. Double clutching is your friend ;D
